Job Description

Position: Senior Operational Excellence Lead

Primary Location: Home Based (Canada or US)

Reports to: Senior Manager, Operational Excellence

Compensation Range: $150,000 - $160,000

The range shown reflects the targeted pay scale. Actual pay within the range depends on work location and factors such as skills, experience, and education. Specific salary details can be discussed during the hiring process. Posted compensation reflects base salary only and excludes bonuses, benefits, pension contributions, and other incentives.

About The Position And About You

The Senior Operational Excellence Lead is key to fostering and driving a culture of sustainable change through the use of continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Six Sigma. They will be a consultant to all areas of the business to coach and train on the implementation tools to identify and solve business, operational, and manufacturing problems and opportunities. As an influential leader, the Senior Operational Excellence Lead will support productivity champions, Green Belts, Black Belts, and other leaders to drive a Transformational Change mindset.

Roles and Responsibilities of Supervisors:

    Gain a thorough working knowledge of Chemtrade Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the ES&H representative to plant personnel through communication and enforcement of ES&H policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership through participation in ES&H initiatives and programs.
  • Actively drive the recognition and rewarding of positive ES&H performance by plant personnel.
  • Ensure that ES&H action items are effectively accomplished and tracked to closure.
  • Participate in ES&H meetings and training forums.
  • Respond to ES&H incidents through prompt and thorough reporting, incident investigation, root cause identification and action item implementation.
  • Develop and communicate job safety analyses for plant processes.
  • Conduct timely and thorough inspections of plant activities and areas and provide timely response to ensure that deficiencies are addressed.
  • Assist in tracking and communication of ES&H performance metrics
  • Provide input to improve ES&H performance compared to metrics.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Operational Excellence Improvement Projects

  • Lead complex cross-organization and cross-functional Black Belt Projects through the application of Lean Six Sigma and Project Management tools as required
  • Lead, facilitate, and coach others on Kaizens or other Lean Improvement events as required
  • Actively partner and collaborate with business areas to identify potential continuous improvement projects and productivity savings projects with data analysis and other LSS tools
  • Contribute to updating and driving the Operational Excellence Road Map that aligns with all businesses
  • Identify best continuous improvement tools and methodologies including Lean Six Sigma and develop and apply those tools to Chemtrade.
  • Collaborate with business areas to implement and sustain these tools.
  • Contribute and drive standardization and structure into performance indicators through the different business areas.
  • Partner with Business Areas to lead and foster cultural change of continuous improvement mindset by reducing waste and variation
  • Contribute to an environment where all employees have increased opportunities to contribute to the success of the business through Continous Improvement Efforts
  • Identify, mentor, and nurture future Green Belt and Black Belt prospects

Operational Excellence Training and Coaching

  • Develop and deliver training modules for Green Belt Certification and support Green Belt Candidates through to certification level
  • Develop and deliver training modules for Leadership Team, Plant Management, Maintenance and Operations Management, Process Engineers, etc. such as Intro to Lean, A3 Problem Solving, Kaizen, 6S WorkPlace Organization, Root Cause Analysis, etc.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to Green Belts and Green Belt Candidates to successfully complete improvement projects
  • Coach departments at all levels (from operator level to senior leadership level) on proper use of the tools
  • Member of the Business & Operational Excellence Leadership Team
  • Be an influential leader to drive a culture of continuous improvement with the use of lean six sigma tools
  • Collaborate with other departmental members to drive improvements within the department
  • Partner with businesses to facilitate
  • Be a change leader for the entire Engineering and BOE team
  • Other Duties as assigned

Minimum Position Qualifications/Requirements

  • Engineering or science degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience in Change Management, Continuous Improvement, or Operational Excellence with a minimum of 5 years people management experience
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification preferred
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross functional teams
  • Demonstrated success in driving accountability
  • Effective change agent
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with project managers, procurement, vendors/contractors, and leadership
  • Very high proficiency in utilizing applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project, SAP, Microsoft Teams, Power BI, Minitab
  • Travel required: Up to 50%
