Position Summary

The Food Shelf Coordinator and Social Services Assistant oversees the daily operations of The Salvation Army Northern Division Minneapolis Temple Corps food shelf. The Coordinator processes donations and deliveries, distributes food to participants, trains volunteers, and ensures cleanliness and compliance standards are maintained. The Coordinator also provides clerical and administrative support to the social services team and provides basic assistance to participants.

$17.23 to $21.42 per hour, 40 hours a week, temporary position for roughly 3 months

Essential Functions (approximate time spent)



  • Oversee food shelf operations including staffing and training; processing and distributing food donations and purchases; and maintaining the cleanliness and health department/food bank standards. (25%)
  • Perform administrative and clerical support tasks including answering phones. (20%)
  • Assist program participants with completing and gathering paperwork. (20%)
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate statistics, records, and case notes. (15%)
  • Respond to information requests and direct calls appropriately. (10%)
  • Conduct Pathway of Hope recruitment and promote Corps activities. (10%)



Education and Experience



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager certification required or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of employment (the organization will pay for the certification).
  • Previous experience in a food shelf, food services, or social services preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, meet MVR driver's qualifications, and pass background checks.

Working Conditions



  • Prolonged standing or sitting, walking, bending, stooping, turning, stretching, reaching, and lifting.
  • Must be able to regularly move/lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Business casual environment; not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in English and Spanish.



Supervisory Responsibilities

Mentor, supervise, schedule, and train food shelf volunteers.

Travel Requirements

Travel using an agency vehicle within the Twin Cities a few times per week to pick-up donations, etc.
