This is a/an 91.7% full-time equivalency (FTE) job with months off. The number of months off will be determined by the position's FTE percentage. The timing of months off will be set to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position. POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Behrend is hiring an Assistant Women's Basketball Coach.

The Assistant Coach plays a vital role in supporting a competitive NCAA intercollegiate athletics program by assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of team operations. This position contributes to the recruitment and development of student-athletes, practice and game preparation, program administration, fundraising, and alumni engagement while fostering an environment that emphasizes academic success, personal growth, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to student-athlete development, collaboration, integrity, and compliance with all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Student-Athlete Recruitment & Retention

  • Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive recruiting strategy to identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes.

  • Coordinate all aspects of the recruiting process, including prospect evaluation, campus visits, off-campus evaluations, and communications through phone, email, and other approved methods.

  • Support retention efforts by fostering meaningful relationships with current student-athletes.

Student-Athlete Development

  • Mentor and support student-athletes in their athletic, academic, personal, and social development.

  • Assist the Head Coach in establishing and enforcing team expectations, policies, and standards of conduct.

  • Promote a positive team culture focused on leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship.

Coaching & Competitive Preparation

  • Assist with practice planning, skill instruction, player development, and game-day coaching.

  • Prepare scouting reports, analyze opponents, and present scouting materials to coaches and student-athletes.

  • Coordinate film exchange and video analysis to support competition preparation.

Program Operations

  • Assist with organizing home competitions and game-day operations.

  • Coordinate team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, meals, and itineraries.

  • Manage the purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and storage of team equipment and supplies.

  • Compile and maintain statistical records and program documentation.

Leadership & Program Support

  • Supervise student managers, volunteer coaches, undergraduate assistants, and other support personnel as assigned.

  • Represent the Head Coach and the athletics program at University, alumni, community, and athletic events when appropriate.

  • Coordinate community engagement opportunities and service projects for the team.

  • Support alumni relations and maintain positive relationships with former student-athletes.

Camps, Fundraising & External Relations

  • Assist with the planning, organization, staffing, and execution of athletic camps and clinics.

  • Support fundraising initiatives and booster club activities to enhance program resources.

  • Assist with media relations and respond to media requests as directed.

Compliance

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to all University, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Conduct all duties in accordance with institutional policies while promoting the mission, values, and strategic priorities of the athletics department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous coaching and/or competitive playing experience in the sport.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Collegiate coaching experience.

  • Experience recruiting student-athletes at the NCAA level.

  • Experience with video analysis software and statistical reporting.

  • CPR, First Aid, and other sport-specific certifications, as applicable.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Associate Degree Differs per sport; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

This is an 11-month, 91.7% full-time equivalency (FTE) job. The month off is June. Full Penn State benefits included.

Penn State Behrend's athletic facilities are expanding and updating to keep pace with the growth and success of our intercollegiate athletics programs. We have a lighted, artificial-turf field soccer and lacrosse complex, an eight-lane composite track with a separate area for field events in our track and field complex. Our baseball and softball complex has two fields, each with irrigation, in-ground dugouts, bullpens, and batting cages. Our Junker Center has three all-purpose courts, seating for 1,600, and eight-lane swimming pool, running track, jumping pits, aerobics room, and strength-training room. Penn State Behrend also sits on the edge of Wintergreen Gorge, an 11,00-year-old chasm that's a spectacular backdrop for a run or a hike. Or head north instead; a six-mile paved trail connects campus to Erie's downtown and lakefront. On-campus sand volleyball courts and multiple intramural fields are available for all students to use.
