Duke University Health System seeks to hire an inpatient-focused Genetic Counselor/Certified Genetic Counselor who will embrace our mission of "Advancing Health Together" as part of our multi-disciplinary Pediatric Medical Genetics team. TheInpatientCGCrole supports admittedpatientsreferred tomedical geneticsfor evaluation/consultation.Thisrolenot onlyprovides face to facegenetic counseling for new consults, return patients, resultsdisclosure and test coordination but alsofunctions asaliaison to DukeUniversityHealthstaff to provide educationregardingpatient care focused on genetic etiologies and testing methods. Ideal candidates will be compassionate, withgreat communicationand teamwork skills. Flexibility and the capacity to adapt to varying patient scenarios are crucial to this role. Work Schedule: Full Time: Hours mayvary butwill typically fall within a standard Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm schedule. All direct patient care will be provided in person and onsite withinDuke University Hospital. Whatyou willdo: As an InpatientGeneticCounselor(IGC)in theDuke University Health System, you will plan and provide professional care for patientsin accordance withtheGeneticCounseling job description (Job 5046). Theresponsibilitiesinclude, but are not limited to: Coordinationwith Attending/Fellow plan for genetic consults (with exception of patients with known metabolic diagnoses being admitted for ongoing or acute management) Speakingwith all newlyconsulted patients/familiesto obtain family history and review genetics background Consentingpatients andappropriate familymembers to genetic testing, as indicated Coordination oftest ordering and sample collection, discerning best options for genetic test send outs Maintainingthe Maestro "Active inpatient consult" list and GC "Rounding list current" excel list with allappropriateinformation Obtainingrelevant genetic results and medical records for clinical review Attendingdaily inpatient genetics rounds with Attending, Resident, Fellow. (Note: timing of rounds may prevent IGC attendance if performed after 6pm). Discussinggenetic testing results with inpatient genetics team, research disorders, and gather information Disclosingresults to patient/family members with/without Attending, includingdiagnosticphenotype, inheritance, follow up plan, parental testing recommendations, and resources, with consent of Attending Attendingfamily/provider meetings for genetic conditions and case management discussions Coordinating andnavigatingappropriate outpatientfollow up plan with staff assistants Providingin-services, consults to allied health professionals caring for patients in common Attendingstaff meetings on inpatient units and attend rounds, as requested Servinas Supervisor for all Genetic Counseling students (and other trainees) rotating through Medical Genetics Attendingandparticipatein weekly Medical Genetics case conference Joining a team of CGC's (4 outpatient focused) that deliverhigh standardsof care and provide coverage for each other when and where possible What you can expect: Multitask in myriad ways - document assessments, plan of care, interventions,evaluationand re-evaluation of patient status, independently seek out resources and work collaboratively. Educate patients and familiesin accordance withtheGeneticCounselorcompetencies. Minimum Qualifications Education Master's degree inGeneticCounseling from an American Board ofGeneticsCounseling(ABGC) accredited program Passion forgenetics inall pediatric specialties. Experience preferred but not necessary. New graduates will be considered Experience Board Certification or eligible by the American BoardOfGeneticCounselors (ABGC). Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Board Certification or eligible by the American BoardOfGeneticCounselors (ABGC).
