What to Expect
The Sr. Manufacturing Engineer, Stamping Tooling, leads design, development and optimzation of precision stamping dies and tooling for next-generation electric motor manufacturing. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including design engineering, automation engineering, tooling suppliers, quality, process, and operations-to design, build and deploy progressive stamping dies with extreme precision requirements. The successful candidate will have extensive theoretical and hands-on experiences in all facets of high-volume electric motor stamping, driving tool lifecycles from concept to production including root-cause analysis and continuous process improvements.
What You'll Do
- Tooling Design & Lifecycle: Spearhead the CAD design and development of custom, high-precision stator dies, focusing on material utilization, interlocking features, and high-speed stamping operations
- Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Collaborate with product design engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure stator geometries can be efficiently and cost-effectively stamped without compromising magnetic or mechanical performance
- Simulation & Analysis: Utilize simulation software to conduct flow, thermal, and stress analysis to optimize die design, minimize tooling wear, and improve stamping quality
- Continuous Improvement: Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) on tooling failures, stamping defects, or production inefficiencies, implementing corrective actions to maximize uptime and die life
- Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior tool and die engineers and production technicians.
- Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed design specifications, workflows, and preventive maintenance procedures for all die systems
- Spare Parts: select and define required and appropriate spare parts & consumables
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Experience: 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in tool and die engineering, with a strong focus on progressive dies, lamination stamping, and electric motor stator production
- Software Proficiency: 5+ years of experience with 3D/2D CAD platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and die simulation software (e.g., AutoForm, PAM-STAMP)
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of metallurgy, tool steel selection, coatings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
- Problem-Solving: Proven track record of applying root cause problem-solving methodologies to resolve complex manufacturing issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, including suppliers and operations staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with occasional overtime or shift work to support 24/7 manufacturing
- Travel as required for die supplier visits, trials or buyoffs (>5%)
