SUMMARY: The Sports Performance Coach develops and implements protocols and procedures to monitor all facets of athlete well-being, training and games; applies scientific knowledge to improve performance and prevent injury of Academy athletes; assists with return to participation of injured athletes; assists in the management of the strength and conditioning facility. As a full-time employee, the Sports Performance Coach will report to the Director of Sports Performance and will attend all training, scrimmages and home and away games.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide direction through monitoring all player wellness, training, match and strength & conditioning programs to improve players performance
- Coordinate with the sports medicine staff regarding injured and/or rehabilitating players to modify and individualize training programs; assist with the return to participation of injured athletes
- Test and evaluate players physical performance and create reports for coaches and players
- Evaluate player performance through performance testing, monitoring training workload and body composition testing
- Assists with daily field warm ups, strength training sessions
- Design and implement field, gym and reserve training warm up protocols
- Makes recommendations and assist with providing guidance to the athletes on nutrition, physical conditioning, injury prevention, and off-season programming
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, other team personnel and MLS staff
- Comply with all MLS medical policies, protocol and Game Operations Manuals
- Attend in house Sports Performance/ Sports Medicine educational Meetings
- Special projects and assignments as business dictates
- Responsible for the maintenance, creation and control of all personally identifiable information or any other information protected by any Confidentiality or Privacy Standards or Company Policies that you have access or knowledge of, including but not limited to any state or federal regulations including HIPAA
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or related field
- 2-4 yeara related experience
- Experience designing training reports through Excel, Tableau
- Experience using technologies such as: Catapult GPS & Heart Rate Technology
- Knowledge and experience in the implementation of strength and conditioning programming in youth level athletes
- Knowledge in the following areas: strength training, Olympic lifts, plyometrics, speed development, conditioning, flexibility, injury prevention, nutrition and strength and conditioning equipment
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to speak Spanish preferred

- CSCS certification (or must be sitting for exam within 3 months of hiring date)
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
