Echocardiographic Tech - Santa Monica Cardiac Imaging

Description The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing advanced echocardiographic procedures and non-invasive cardiovascular testing for adult, pediatric, and fetal patients. This role works closely with cardiologists and multidisciplinary care teams to deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging, ensure patient safety, and support exceptional patient care throughout the UCLA Cardiovascular Imaging Labs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive echocardiographic examinations for adult, pediatric, and fetal patients, including 2D, M-Mode, Doppler, stress echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography support.
  • Acquire, analyze, and document diagnostic images and measurements, recognizing significant findings and collaborating with cardiologists to ensure accurate reporting and patient care.
  • Administer contrast agents, perform bubble studies, establish IV access, and apply imaging techniques appropriate to each patient's age, condition, and clinical needs.
  • Support a variety of non-invasive cardiovascular testing procedures, including exercise and pharmacologic stress testing, while contributing to efficient clinic and laboratory operations.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, procedure documentation, and billing-related information to support compliance and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.
  • Promote patient safety by monitoring patient status, responding appropriately to emergency situations, and following established clinical, safety, and confidentiality protocols.
  • Maintain competency in the operation of echocardiography and related diagnostic equipment while supporting quality improvement initiatives within the Cardiovascular Imaging Labs.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Cardiac Echocardiography Technology program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • RDCS (AE) credential through ARDMS, or eligibility to obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and echocardiographic imaging principles.
  • Ability to perform echocardiographic procedures, including transthoracic echocardiograms, stress echocardiography, and support for transesophageal echocardiography.
  • Ability to recognize significant findings, prepare preliminary reports, and communicate urgent results to physicians.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience maintaining accurate clinical documentation and records.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and manage workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to patient-centered care and effective collaboration.
  • Ability to safely operate and transport echocardiography equipment as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Up to three years of echocardiography or direct patient care experience.
  • Experience with stress echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, and digital imaging systems.
New graduates from accredited programs are encouraged to apply.
