Job Summary

The Class A Truck Driver is responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer to transport waterworks supplies to construction and job sites while ensuring timely, accurate deliveries and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position requires a professional driver who is committed to safety, customer service, and efficient transportation of materials. While most deliveries are local, the role includes scheduled full-day regional routes twice per week. This position offers the opportunity to transition into a full-time role for the right candidate.

Job Responsibilities



  • Safely operate an automatic tractor with a 48-foot trailer to transport materials.
  • Deliver waterworks supplies, including fire hydrants, pipes, valves, fittings, and related products to customer job sites.
  • Complete deliveries according to the assigned schedule.
  • Verify delivery directions and communicate with customers as needed.
  • Coordinate deliveries using provided addresses and customer contact information.
  • Ensure all materials are properly secured and comply with vehicle weight limits.
  • Obtain customer signatures on delivery tickets and verify documentation accuracy.
  • Return completed delivery documentation to the warehouse.
  • Pick up customer returns and verify returned materials match authorized requests.
  • Pick up local purchase orders as assigned.
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Fuel the truck as needed and report vehicle maintenance concerns, accidents, moving violations, or defects promptly.
  • Comply with all DOT regulations and company safety policies.
  • Assist with loading materials using a sit-down forklift when necessary.
  • Assist in warehouse operations as needed.
  • Maintain professional communication with supervisors throughout the workday.
  • Represent the organization professionally while providing excellent customer service.
  • Support branch operations and perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Work overtime as required.


Job Requirements



  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience operating Class A commercial vehicles.
  • Must have held a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for at least one (1) year.
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must maintain the required state-issued non-excepted interstate self-certification and provide proof.
  • Experience operating manual transmission commercial trucks.
  • Ability to operate a sit-down forklift or willingness to complete employer-provided training.
  • Ability to safely operate tractor-trailers with semi-trailers or trailers with two or more axles.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safe driving practices.
  • Ability to lift, secure, and transport materials safely.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.


Education



  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.


Additional Job Details (Commute, Attendance, etc.)



  • Most deliveries are completed within the local service area.
  • Two days each week require full-day round-trip deliveries to regional coastal locations.
  • Deliveries are made primarily to construction and job sites.
  • Contractors typically unload materials at delivery locations.
  • Occasional loading assistance may be required using a sit-down forklift.
