Public Safety Officer - Team Lead

SOME (So Others Might Eat) provides material aid and comfort to our vulnerable neighbors in Washington, DC, helping them break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through programs and services that save lives, improve lives, and help transform the lives of individuals and families, their communities, and the systems and structures that affect them.

Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $53,705.00 to $56,796.30 and is commensurate with experience.

SOME (So Others Might Eat) is looking for a Public Safety Officer Team Lead with a great attitude and a high level of commitment to keep our clients, staff, and community safe.

Position Description: The Public Safety Officer Team Lead is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to public safety officers while supporting the operational needs of SOME, Inc. programs and facilities. This role ensures a safe and secure environment by overseeing daily safety operations, monitoring CCTV systems, and promptly reporting and addressing any findings or incidents. The Team Lead serves as a point of contact for escalated safety concerns, supports training and coordination of staff, and collaborates with program and facilities teams to maintain a secure, welcoming environment for clients, staff, and visitors.

Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 am - 7:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Required: HS Diploma or GED; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs. Public Safety and supervisory experience; experience providing services to the homeless and/or underserved population.

Required License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Must possess and maintain a vehicle and a valid Driver's License (Mileage will be reimbursed)

Expected Contributions: Public Safety Management

• Ensure SOME Inc. facilities are safe and clients, guests, and residents are in a secure environment. Provide security detail inside/outside of the locations.
• Provide conflict mitigation and de-escalate conflict between clients, guests, residents, and/or staff with the use of CPI/Handle With Care training.
• Develop and file incident reports SIR for medical, police issues, and special circumstances
• Issue barring notices as needed
• Contact police when conflict escalates or violent behavior is exhibited by the client, guest, or residents.
• Develop positive working relationships with the local police and other law enforcement
• Monitor security cameras, prepare footage, and download for investigation
• Complete and file incident reports/ SIR for medical, police, issues, and special circumstances.
• Print off pictures from CCTV for the barring list and keep information accurate and up to date.
• Enforce rules consistently for all clients, guests, and residents
• Assist when needed to any SOME program.
• Notify facilities immediately when a situation arises requiring attention
• Become familiar with the SOME Emergency Preparedness Plan

Family Housing Support

• Make rounds with public safety officers who are assigned to programs.
• Document and report concerns to help provide a safe and secure environment.
• Assist Housing Program Managers and staff with requests for troubleshooting conflicts, as needed.

Supervisory

• Ensure appropriate department staffing levels in order to meet objectives; Assess, evaluate, and hire new employees as needed.
• Contribute to budget development, and use sound judgment to leverage resources in accomplishing department goals; administer budget, and complete with SOME financial reporting requirements.
• Contribute to strategy development and strive to improve department functions and performance; assist in the development of standards and goals as appropriate.
• Submit administrative paperwork to Human Resources, Finance, Compliance, and CQI; Refer to the SOME Employee Handbook or policies for guidance.
• Maintain professional documentation and ensure the program complies with some CQI Standards.
• Ensure compliance with all state, local, and general laws governing the workplace and all department functions.
• Schedule staff work hours, as needed, and monitor for time and attendance. Approve time cards and requests for leave.
• Provide direction and guidance to staff members on department operations and procedures.
• Define work requirements, assign tasks to staff members, and review work for quality and accuracy.
• Provide regular feedback on performance, monitor individual performance, conduct performance evaluations, and take steps for performance improvement as needed.
• Provide coaching and training for staff, assist staff with work processes and policies, and encourage opportunities for professional development.

Environmental Working Conditions: This position functions primarily on the O Street Campus with exposure to heat, cold, steam, and fumes. Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors on SOME facility grounds.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, and squat, and may be required to stand for extended periods.

Position Designation: This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. You may be subject to drug testing before or during your employment with SOME. In this position, you may be disqualified from employment based on the presence of marijuana in test results, even if you possess a medical card authorizing the use of medical marijuana.

Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. Must be able to move around all levels/floors of the building.
