Overview
Overview Personal Care Aide (PCA) Staff is responsible for assisting clients with their personal care needs, activities of daily living, home environmental support, and safety, including oversight and supervision for all VNS Health Personal Care clients in accordance with their Scope of Practice as a certified PCA. They work under the supervision of the registered nurse. What You Will Do
- Assists clients with personal care activities, including bathing, mouth care, skin care, grooming, toileting, transferring, and ambulation.
- Assists clients with housekeeping tasks, including planning and preparing meals, feeding, light housekeeping, changing linens, making beds, and laundering clothes and bedding.
- Assists client with safety needs by using equipment (side rails, foot stools, wheelchairs, etc.).
- Assist clients with transportation to appointments, errands, and social activities.
- Reminds client to take their medications at prescribed times.
- Follows the Plan of Care as indicated.
- Provides emotional support and companionship to clients, engaging them in conversation and activities.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication regarding the client's care with the client, family, and supervising healthcare professionals.
- Maintains accurate records of care provided, including activities, observations, and incidents.
- Completes all VNS Health Personal Care's records and reports according to agency policy and procedure.
- Accurately documents services provided by VNS Health Personal Care policy on the day services are rendered.
- Communicates and works cooperatively with other members of the healthcare team

Qualifications
- Satisfactory completion of New York State Health Department approved PCA Training Program or Equivalency.
- Sixth (6) grade reading comprehension level.
- Writing and math skill level to the extent necessary for the successful and safe performance of required job functions.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
Physical Requirements
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting adult clients.
- Standing and walking for extensive periods, as well as bending and climbing stairs.
- Commonly lifts, carries, and maneuvers items weighing more than 50 lbs.
