The Intracellular Pathogens Research Laboratory ( IPRL) is a research based unit
that characterizes novel pathogens and develops improved serological and
molecular testing methods primarily for vector borne organisms that cause
infectious diseases in companion animals and humans.

Essential Job Duties
The Intracellular Pathogens Research Laboratory ( IPRL) is seeking a Research Technician to assist in essential laboratory workflows, such as, processing bacterial cultures, cell cultures and performing molecular and serological assays.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Laboratory Workflows & Biosafety: process bacterial cultures, cell cultures and perform molecular and serological assays; research activities include working in a BSL3 biocontainment laboratory.

  • Data Management & Reporting: exceptional computer skills are required for data entry, result reporting, data summaries, and responding to research inquiries.

  • Operations & Purchasing Support: responsible for maintenance of the IPRL bacterial culture collection, processing requisitions that fall under the NCSU Marketplace, maintaining communications with vendor representatives concerning reagent and other purchases, equipment service agreements, equipment maintenance, laboratory cleanliness and safety.

  • Team Collaboration:must possess excellent communication skills to be able to seamlessly interact with other members within the IPRL (undergraduate students, Ph. D. graduate students, research postdoctoral fellows and senior scientists) to address the research priorities of the laboratory.

Minimum Experience/Education
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Benchtop laboratory skills, i. e. pipetting, culturing bacteria, microscope competence, and ability to extract DNA and perform molecular amplification techniques.
  • Prior experience or interest in infectious diseases research.
  • Previous experience in a clinical/diagnostic laboratory setting.
  • Customer service experience.
