This is the first level of the financial analysis classification hierarchy. Employees at this level develop competence by performing structured work assignments and solving routine problems. Employees use existing procedures to solve routine or standard problems in financial areas of specialization. Employee receives instruction, guidance and direction from others until they possess the requisite skill sets to self-perform most tasks with only moderate guidance.

Makes personal contacts with various Finance and Operations and support group personnel at various levels as well as lower level external officials.

This role provides accounting, financial, tax analysis and/or reporting support for the Finance Group. The associate will work closely with teammates on various finance activities including compiling tax, finance and/or accounting data; performing computations; completing various documentation and/or input forms; using various tax, budgeting and accounting software technologies; and will interface with others in and outside of the department.

Depending on departmental assignment an incumbent may conduct or assist with tasks such as: monthly journal entry preparation, account reconciliations and variance analysis; analysis and research of ad-hoc requests and reporting; and/or preparation of regulatory and tax filings.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word, and Power Point

  • Ability to possess and apply fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Masters in Accounting or MBA

  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. GPA of 3.5 highly desired.

  • Previous relevant internship or co-op experience desired

  • Demonstrates leadership through on-campus or extracurricular activities.

  • Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • 0-2 years of work experience in related field in addition to degree

  • Years of prior equivalent work related experience in lieu of a degree is N/A unless grandfathered in and requires CFO Staff approval.

  • Previous internship/co-op experience with Duke Energy.
