Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health is the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 20 years, integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8. This integrated delivery system is a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it ensures that residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community.

This full-service hospital includes 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, a 500-car garage, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking an experienced Float Pool Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery/Mother Baby (Full Time)

The Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (Labor & Delivery/Mother Baby) provides comprehensive, family-centered nursing care to obstetric, postpartum, and newborn patients across the Women's Services division. This role requires the ability to safely and effectively float between Labor & Delivery and Mother Baby units while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence, patient safety, and compassionate care. The RN collaborates with physicians, midwives, lactation consultants, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver exceptional care throughout the childbirth experience.

Job Responsibilities/Requirements:

  • Deliver evidence-based nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and newborn care.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for mothers and newborns.
  • Monitor maternal and fetal well-being using appropriate assessment techniques and fetal monitoring technology.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to obstetrical emergencies, including maternal hemorrhage, fetal distress, shoulder dystocia, eclampsia, and neonatal resuscitation.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and intravenous therapies in accordance with hospital policies and provider orders.
  • Assist physicians, certified nurse midwives, and anesthesia providers during labor, delivery, cesarean sections, and other obstetrical procedures.
  • Provide postpartum assessments, pain management, breastfeeding support, newborn education, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients and families regarding labor expectations, postpartum recovery, newborn care, safe sleep, and infant feeding.
  • Promote patient safety by adhering to infection prevention, medication administration, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Float between Labor & Delivery and Mother Baby units based on patient care needs while maintaining competency in each specialty.
  • Accurately document patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, shift handoffs, and patient care conferences.
  • Serve as a patient advocate while delivering culturally competent, compassionate care.
  • Respond to obstetrical and neonatal emergencies in accordance with hospital protocols.
  • Precept new employees and nursing students as assigned.
  • Participate in continuing education, competency validation, and departmental quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • DC RN License required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent acute care Labor & Delivery nursing experience and Mother Baby experience.
  • Demonstrated competency in both Labor & Delivery and Mother Baby nursing.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required.
  • Intermediate or Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring (AWHONN) certification preferred.
  • STABLE certification preferred.
