Make Your Mark: The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing payroll processing and operational support for US, Canada, and Mexico BlackLine Employees by applying Federal, State, provincial, and other regulatory requirements, identifying potential compliance issues, and escalating exceptions appropriately, in addition to backing up other global payrolls managed by the US payroll team. Regional payroll governance, overall compliance ownership, and strategic direction remain with Payroll leadership.
You'll Get To:
- Processes, reconciles, publishes payroll and compensation data to help ensure payments are compliant with company policy, SOX, GAAP, Federal, State and other necessary regulatory agencies.
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll process and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate biweekly multi-state processing of US payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Creates and peer reviews data input of payroll team members to ensure accuracy.
- Support payroll processing and review for Canada (delivered via Managed Services) and Mexico (delivered via CloudPay), including issue resolution and escalation, in addition to backup support for other global payrolls managed by the US payroll team.
- Maintain and create payroll department SOP library.
- Apply working knowledge of local/state/province/country payroll requirements, including Canadian (CRA remittances, provincial tax variance, ROE issuance) and Mexican (IMSS, SAT, INFONAVIT, FONACOT/FONAVIT) requirements, to support accurate payroll processing and identify potential compliance issues for escalation; coordinate as needed with the Managed Services provider, CloudPay, and third-party administrators.
- Responds verbally or in writing to inquiries, complaints, or problems and makes necessary adjustments of a non-routine nature while providing a high level of customer service in responding to payroll-related inquiries.
- Acts as a subject matter expert and/or resource to others in the area of payroll processing.
- Advises managers and employees on the pay provisions of FLSA for overtime policies, and pay policies as related to various types of leaves usage, as appropriate.
- Oversee the integrity of payroll data input into payroll systems.
- Prepare ad hoc reports on employee pay data.
- Partner cross functionally with the People Operations, Finance and Accounting, and Benefits teams on projects and building out workflows and business processes that impact payroll.
- Provide input into and assist with the development and implementation of payroll system enhancements and process improvements; major strategic initiatives and transformation projects are owned by Payroll leadership.
- Assists in special projects as required.
- Review timecards in timekeeping system for accuracy.
- Coordinate with ADP, CloudPay, and other managed-service providers on payroll review, issue resolution, and escalation.
- Ensure the accuracy of special and off-cycle checks for final termination pay, etc.
- Download and review quarterly payroll tax returns.
- Review wage and garnishment orders.
What You'll Bring: Years of Experience in Related Field: 8+ years of related payroll experience Technical/Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of payroll SOX audit procedures and payroll tax laws.
- Must be extremely detailed oriented with excellent analytical and organization skills.
- Highest degree of integrity and Ability to handle Company and employee information with the strictest confidence.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
- Skill in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities.
- Self-motivated and directed with a positive outlook.
- Well-developed problem solving skills and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal and customer service skills and the demonstrated ability to interact with management and employees at all levels.
- Highly Proficient in Microsoft Office applications with advanced Excel skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for an international/global organization
- Experience supporting or coordinating payroll delivered through third-party or managed service providers (e.g., ADP, CloudPay) preferable
- Workday experience preferable
- Spanish language proficiency, given Mexico payroll and vendor support
- Certified Payroll Professional Certification (CPP)
