Essential Job Duties
Bulk Waste and Electronics Collections - scheduled route collections average of 180 sites per week for materials and electronics not accepted in the automated or recycling collection system. Related transport and sorting into appropriate materials bins at the Dearstyne Rolloff Site. Bulk material collections include items such as pallets, crates, discarded furniture, scrap metal, electronics, etc.

Recycling and Reuse Collections - customer requested collections of reuse, recycling and unwanted building items and hauling to Dearstyne for recycling or disposal. This is on demand service for campus customers and response time is offered within 1-2 business days of the initial request. Common requests include delivery and pick up of carts for office clean outs, pick up and signature collections of confidential recycling, preparing and distributing materials for reuse in other areas or departments.

Events and Projects - Field support to provide special waste/recycling/compost service for campus events and support major activities on campus such as residence hall move in and move out where additional services, monitoring and staff support are needed for collections.

Repair, Maintenance, Safety
- provide inspection and maintenance of containers related to the collection of waste and recycling on campus. Includes cleaning, proper labeling, delivery, distribution and placement of containers inside and outside of buildings. Inspection and maintenance of assigned trucks and equipment used daily to complete duties and assignments. Perform all work assignments and duties in compliance with established safe work practices. Follow safety and health regulations, policies and procedures. Identifies and resolves potential safety concerns or violations.

Must be able to move and lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
Safe driving skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • Experience with collection of waste and recycling.
  • Experience with cleaning, proper labeling, delivery, distribution, and maintenance inspection.

Required License or Certification
Valid driver's license required. North Carolina driver's license required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
