Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Coastal Studies Institute was founded in 2003 by the University of North Carolina system to conduct research, offer educational opportunities and provide outreach in coastal and marine science and management to a wide variety of audiences. The Coastal Studies Institute facilities are located on the ECU Outer Banks Campus in Wanchese, NC and provide researchers with an eastern NC platform and base for conducting new research or extending the scope of ongoing work. The UNC Coastal Studies Institute is a multi-university, collaborative research institute dedicated to understanding and improving the coastal environment and its communities through integrative, location-based research, education and community engagement. The UNC Coastal Studies Institute will undertake research, offer educational opportunities, provide community outreach programs, and enhance communication among those concerned with the unique history, culture, and environment of the maritime counties of North Carolina.
Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of this position is to effectively expand graduate and
undergraduate educational opportunities at the Coastal Studies Institute on ECU's Outer Banks Campus. This position will provide an administrative focus on recruitment, marketing, course logistics, and student interaction of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at ECU and at other UNC system campuses. The position will coordinate and expand the current ECU (Semester Experience at the Coast) and UNC CH (Outer Banks Field Site) programs. The position will identify curricular opportunities across universities for student recruitment, such as the ECU Coastal and Marine Studies ( COAS) minor. There is an expectation to expand the current undergraduate experiential framework to include options for a full year curriculum on the coast. At the graduate level, this position will work with the Director of Integrated Coastal Sciences PhD Program to assist with recruitment efforts and coordinate student needs while at the Outer Banks Campus.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Experience with university academic programs and procedures. Understand curricular revision processes. Experience working with students participating in an experiential academic program.
