Schedule: 1st Shift - Tuesday-Saturday, 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

Work Arrangement: Onsite


Color vision screening is required.

Description

The Clinical Toxicology Lab Assistant receives on the job training for the pre analytical prep and support of patient sample testing in the Clinical Toxicology Laboratory. This laboratory is fast paced and performs a variety of high complexity testing including therapeutic drug testing, designer panel drug testing, pain oral fluid drug testing, occupational drug testing, unknown analysis testing, pharmaceutical testing, and drug confirmation testing on blood, serum, urine, and meconium sample types.

Required Education, Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

* High School Diploma or equivalent

* One year of health related work experience, a medical certification or college level courses in laboratory science background, preferred

* Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage time

* Excellent research and problem resolution skills

* Work effectively in a fast paced production environment to meet established turn-around-times

* Must be able to perform work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

* Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills

* Able to work independently within a team under general supervision

* Some overtime required depending on departmental needs

Key Responsibilities:

The following duties reflect key responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

* Locate and retrieve specimens (urine, blood, serum, plasma, oral fluid) for testing, aliquoting as needed; evaluate specimens and test orders; determine priority of work and batches to maintain acceptable turn around time

* Recognize unacceptable and unusual specimens and handle appropriately

* Adhere to SOP when preparing materials and specimens for both pre and post extraction

* Use GDP in all documentation

* Maintain a clean, well-stocked, organized work area

* Maintain clean glassware and extraction materials

* Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory tests and equipment including, but not limited to, maintenance logs, temperature logs, disinfection logs and assay SOPs

* Support the preparation of laboratory reagents according to established department standard operating procedures and established time frames, as needed

* Deliver accurate high quality patient care while maintaining efficiency

* Participate in the instruction and training of others; demonstrate and/or explain the testing process to others or observe the testing process as performed by others
