The Department of History at Davidson College invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Middle Eastern history, broadly defined to include North Africa, West Asia, and the Islamic World. Specialty and regional focus are open, but training in Arabic language and sources is essential. The department seeks candidates who can effectively teach the entire span of Middle Eastern history from pre-modern through early modern to modern. Scholars whose areas of thematic specialization complement current departmental strengths are particularly welcome. This includes but is not limited to those whose teaching and research explore environmental history; religious history; intellectual history; political, imperial, and colonial history; and the history of science, technology, and medicine. We seek to hire a scholar who thinks creatively and dynamically about curricular opportunities and connections.

Candidates should be committed to excellence in both undergraduate teaching and scholarly research. Ph.D. in History expected by June 30, 2027. The successful candidate will teach five courses each year (four in the first year) including introductory and upper-level courses of their own design. The candidate may also participate in the college's Writing Program and/or Humanities Program.
