Position Summary

Are you passionate about working with students, faculty, staff, preceptors, and clinical sites to advance healthcare education in New Mexico? The Physician Assistant (PA) Program in the Department of Family and Community Medicine is seeking a collaborative, detailed-oriented Educational Specialist for the clinical portion of the PA Program. This position will work closely with PA Program students, faculty, and staff to support the last 9 months of the clinical portion of the curriculum, as well as provide logistical support and planning for clinical hands-on activities throughout the program. Primary duties will include clinical curriculum logistics, student and faculty support, clinical compliance onboarding, preceptor and clinical site recruitment, logistical planning, and helping facilitate hands-on clinical educational sessions and other functions to support the PA Program's mission of educating PA students to become exemplary providers with a focus on primary care medicine for the underserved and rural populations of New Mexico.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help the Program meet its mission of placing students in medically underserved and rural populations of New Mexico for nine Supervised Clinical Practice Experiences (SCPEs) and two Continuity Clinic experiences for each student by working with the PA Clinical Team on continuous 12-month recruitment of preceptors and clinical sites. Recruit preceptors and clinical sites via email, phone, and/or personal visits.
  • Serve as the lead staff member for clinical compliance onboarding paperwork for student rotations. Helps facilitate clearances between student and clinical sites to prevent any delays in student placements.
  • Create and manage clinical site visit scheduling and tracking, schedule site visits, and attend visits as requested.
  • Arrange monthly End of Rotation day events, intersession activities, and clinical skills training by providing support to students, faculty, and guest lecturers.
  • Coordinate administrative processing such as time log approvals and grade entry in the Exxat system.
  • Engage with incoming PA students following program admission and track completion of clinical compliance requirements through the onboarding process.
  • Perform other administrative responsibilities, such as: Coordinate reimbursements for students through the AHEC grant. Organize preceptor appreciation efforts and interact with the Office for Community Faculty on outreach/communications. Provide administrative support for the Clinical Team. Support the entire PA Team by participating in program's student assessments, white coat and graduation ceremonies, and other events and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and/or community partners in an educational program.
  • Experience with clinical site and preceptor recruitment/outreach.
  • Experience with administrative coordination, including documentation, calendars, meeting scheduling, and meeting minutes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills as demonstrated by use of independent judgment to solve complex problems.
  • Self-starter, process-oriented team player.
  • Flexible and willing to assist with program activities and other duties outside of primary responsibilities.
