Job Summary

The Traveling Lead Data Center Technician is responsible for leading crews and performing structured cabling and fiber infrastructure installations for large-scale data center and commercial projects. This role combines hands-on technical expertise in fiber splicing, termination, testing, troubleshooting, rack installation, and infrastructure buildouts with team leadership and project coordination responsibilities. The position requires extensive data center and fiber experience, the ability to manage crews of 10 or more technicians, and a strong commitment to safety, quality, and project requirements. Travel to project sites is required based on operational needs.

Job Responsibilities




  • Lead and manage crews of 10 or more technicians to complete large-scale data center and commercial projects safely and efficiently.



  • Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.



  • Dress, route, manage, and label copper and fiber cabling.



  • Perform cable and fiber termination, including ribbon and fusion splicing.



  • Operate fiber splicing equipment and related installation tools.



  • Install and configure single-mode and multimode fiber and fiber connectors, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.



  • Perform Fluke and OTDR testing and document results as required.



  • Troubleshoot fiber, cabling, and infrastructure installation issues.



  • Perform quality control inspections of fiber and infrastructure installations.



  • Rack and stack customer equipment.



  • Build out server racks and complete rack elevations.



  • Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, cable management systems, and related infrastructure.



  • Receive project materials and perform hardware assembly as required.



  • Perform Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.



  • Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.



  • Coordinate with general contractors, project stakeholders, and site leadership.



  • Conduct safety meetings and reinforce jobsite safety requirements.



  • Monitor material needs and coordinate material orders as necessary.



  • Assist with labor forecasting and crew allocation based on project requirements.



  • Identify blueprint or scope changes and submit change order information to the Project Manager.



  • Maintain professional written and verbal communication with team members, project leadership, and other stakeholders.



  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, including PPE requirements, jobsite housekeeping practices, and OSHA standards.




Job Requirements




  • Minimum of 5 years of Data Center Technician experience.



  • Minimum of 5 years of fiber installation and infrastructure experience.



  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing crews of 10 or more technicians.



  • Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, including fusion and ribbon splicing.



  • Experience with single-mode and multimode fiber installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.



  • Experience using Fluke and OTDR testing equipment.



  • Experience with structured cabling, server rack buildouts, rack-and-stack activities, and data center infrastructure installation.



  • Experience reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and project specifications.



  • General contractor and project stakeholder coordination experience.



  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.



  • Active OSHA 10 certification preferred.



  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned project locations as required.



  • Ability to work from ladders and scissor lifts and perform work in confined spaces.



  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move materials or equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.



  • Ability to stand and work on your feet for the duration of the assigned shift.



  • Must have appropriate basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, tool pouch, gloves, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.
