Our continued growth and success have created an opportunity for a Wetland/Environmental Scientist at our corporate headquarters in downtown Milwaukee, WI. This role offers meaningful learning opportunities and the chance to contribute to a well-established technical group focused on water resources, ecology, and wetland sciences. Projects may include habitat restoration, public and private development, and transportation. We are seeking talented individuals with drive, adaptability, humility, intelligence, teamwork, curiosity, and resilience to help advance our team's success. The successful candidate will serve as a technical and project leader, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts within a growing and well-established practice.

As a Wetland/Environmental Scientist at GRAEF, enjoy responsibilities that include:

  • Wetland and water resource delineations and characterization (botanical surveys, habitat mapping, endangered species assessments.)
  • Prepare wetland delineation and technical reports for clients/regulators.
  • Support environmental permitting and regulatory compliance (at the federal, state and local levels.)
  • Attend client / regulatory meetings and provide input.
  • Additional work may include wildlife surveys, ecological restoration design, tree surveys, and coastal or bluff stabilization.
    • Mentor and support the technical development of junior staff.
    • Assist with proposal development and strategic business development pursuits.

    We are considering Wetland/Environmental Scientists to join our team who possess the following basic qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Biological Sciences, Water Resources or Civil Engineering with an environmental focus.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wetland projects required in the Midwest region.
    • Wisconsin Assured Delineator (AD) strongly preferred. Alternative accreditations such as Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification or Certified Wetland Delineator (CWD) considered with the expectation to become an Assured Delineator.
    • Experience with proposal writing, project interviews, client interactions and business development responsibilities.
      • Stormwater and GIS experience and familiarity with GPS equipment is highly preferred.
      • Qualifying experience includes working knowledge Federal and State water and wetland regulations such as: of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act; Wisconsin's wetland and waterway regulations; wetland delineation and functional assessment; knowledge of Wisconsin's flora; and wetland mitigation site selection, design and construction.
      • Experience with green infrastructure, erosion control or best management practice inspections.
        • Experience with Phase 1 ESA and/or Environmental Impact Analysis Reports.
        • Good oral and written communication skills, organizational and note-taking skills.
        • Ability to collaborate with clients, peers, management and vendors.
