DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Within this role, you will participate in a 12-month training period in which you will learn the specialized duties of an Air Quality Specialist. This position focuses on inspecting facilities, investigating complaints, and collecting emission data to support clean air standards in an assigned region. Through your work, you will ensure compliance with environmental rules and help maintain accurate records for state and federal programs. As an Air Quality Specialist Trainee, you will learn how to perform the following duties:
- Facility Inspection: Conduct inspections of air pollution sources and control equipment to determine compliance with regulations
- Data Collection: Gather and input emission inventory information into required systems to maintain accurate records
- Compliance Review: Assess reports, submissions, and operating conditions to determine whether facilities meet air quality requirements
- Complaint Investigation: Investigate air pollution complaints by interviewing individuals, reviewing operations, and preparing technical reports
- Enforcement Support: Document violations, prepare memos, and assist in actions needed to resolve non-compliance issues
- Sampling Duties: Monitor source tests, collect material samples, and evaluate data to determine environmental conditions

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position requires occasional travel.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Norristown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- Four years of technical experience in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental health, geology, biology, ecology, or a closely related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
