Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Financial Reporting Manager manages the accounting operations of the financial reporting unit. This position works with the Associate Controller to ensure the accuracy, compliance, and strategic utility of financial data. Key responsibilities include the preparation of the University's financial statements and annual comprehensive financial report ( ACFR), overseeing the month-end/year-end closing processes related to financial reporting (especially moving from cash to accrual basis), and ensuring GASB compliance. The position manages two staff who are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the North Carolina Financial System ( NCFS), Capital Improvements (CIs), and Fixed Asset data recorded in Banner Finance ledgers, Banner Fixed Asset module, and web based systems and interfaces. In addition, this position manages the DC Virgo Lab School financials, ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies; provides ad hoc financial reporting to campus, management, and outside agencies throughout the year; delivers specialized campus training; and offers a high level of customer service.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Four-year degree in accounting, finance, business management or other discipline related to area of work with a minimum of 12 credit hours of accounting course work and 7 years professional accounting experience, or the equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Experience working in a university environment; experience with governmental fund accounting and governmental accounting standards; supervisory experience; experience working with ERP systems; Banner Finance experience. CPA, MBA, masters degree in accounting, or equivalent masters degree preferred.

Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Controller (department) includes general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, travel and direct pay, non-student billing, tax compliance, financial reporting, fixed assets, and capital reporting. The department provides financial, accounting, tax, and management reporting support services to the University. The department is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising and administering all accounting functions related to the operation of UNCW and the integration of the budget and procurement system into the official financial records of the University and for the consolidation and maintenance of university financial records to provide accurate and complete financial data to university management, State and federal agencies.
