Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Division for University Advancement is responsible for the following primary goals:

  • Coordinate a campus-wide, comprehensive effort to raise philanthropic funds that support the strategic plan and mission of the university.
  • Manage an inclusive alumni engagement program designed to serve and engage nearly 100,000 alumni as ambassadors, advocates and donors.
  • Strengthen and expand UNCW's donor pipeline through effective discovery, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
  • Ensure that external boards (UNCW Foundation Board, Board of Visitors, Student Aid Association Board, Alumni Association Board of Directors and the Friends of UNCW) are effective in their mission of supporting UNCW.


The division's fundraising efforts are enhanced by effective partnerships with the campus community as well as external constituents including alumni, parents, corporations, foundations, volunteers and friends. Development areas include annual giving, leadership annual giving, major gifts, principal gifts, corporate and foundation engagement and planned giving, as well as alumni engagement. Prospect development, events and board management, stewardship, communications and advancement services are support services for the fundraising activities of the division.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Gift Compliance and Reconciliation Manager, reporting to the Director of Advancement Services for Gift Administration, is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day processing of gift transactions in the university's donor database (Blackbaud Raiser's Edge) in compliance with FASB, GAAP, IRS, and CASE regulations and guidelines.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Researches solutions and answers questions related to more complex and unique donor transactions, frequently interacting with both gift officers and donors.
  • Develops, documents, and implements gift-entry procedures to address new gift requirements or regulations, improve processing, and/or deploy new system functionality.
  • Responsible for the reconciliation of all processed transactions against multiple online giving, event registration, and matching gift platforms, with entries processed on the Cashier's Office ledger, with Payroll files and corresponding journal entries for payroll deduction donations, stock transactions, EFT and wire transfers, as well as regularly wiring reconciled deposits from Advancement Services' bank account to UNCW NC Treasury bank account.
  • Serves as a resource for Gift Administration colleagues by providing training on new procedures, answering questions, and serving as team leadership in the absence of the Director.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience

  • Three years of related gift processing experience.
  • Working knowledge of database software.
  • Ability to foster relationships, interact, and correspond with a variety of internal (staff) and external (donors) constituents.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously as well as highly confidential information.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • High level of experience working in Raiser's Edge NXT or a similar relational database; gift processing experience in Raiser's Edge, CyberSource, ImportOmatic and NetCommunity.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Understanding of FASB, GAAP, IRS regulations, and CASE guidelines as related to charitable giving.
