Education Program Assistant

Openings: 2 full-time positions | Location: New London, Connecticut (on-site)

Position Summary

Education Program Assistants deliver Government-approved maritime, science, and history programs in the Innovation Lab, STEM/Mission Center, galleries, and other designated spaces. They create an energetic, organized, and safe learning experience for students, families, teachers, and community groups.

Essential Responsibilities




  • Facilitate interactive science workshops, rescue simulations, history lessons, and hands-on activities for elementary through high-school groups.



  • Operate nautical education carts and lead knot-tying, navigation, maritime-craft, and gallery-based learning activities.



  • Lead early-childhood discovery play, story times, and sensory programs in the Innovation Lab.



  • Set up, clean, inventory, and maintain educational kits, approved lab materials, and program technology.



  • Assist with registration, seating, setup, and logistics for museum-wide educational events and assemblies.



  • Serve as a professional, approachable educational ambassador while following Government-approved curriculum and program direction.




Minimum Qualifications




  • Bachelor degree in education, museum studies, STEM, history, or equivalent military or professional experience.



  • One to three years of teaching, museum education, camp, classroom, STEM-outreach, or comparable instructional experience.



  • Ability to explain STEM concepts clearly, facilitate active groups, and engage visitors across age ranges.



  • Ability to lift or move educational materials up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods during programs.



  • Ability to meet Government-designated child-safety, training, background-investigation, and access requirements for duties involving minors.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Knowledge of Coast Guard missions, navigation, knot-tying, lighthouse operations, maritime safety, or aviation.



  • Experience with maker-space tools, 3D printers, digital fabrication, or classroom technology.



  • Experience supporting early-childhood learners or inclusive instructional environments.
