Position Summary


The Product Implementation Engineer is responsible for sustaining and improving an installed portfolio of packaging equipment throughout its lifecycle. This role balances engineering change implementation, documentation management, and product support with hands-on design and product improvement projects.


Specifically, the role focuses on engineering changes, documentation improvements, and component obsolescence management, product improvements, equipment redesigns, standardization initiatives, cost reduction efforts, and reliability enhancements.


The position works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Quality teams to improve product quality, manufacturability, reliability, and overall machine performance.


Key Responsibilities



  • Execute engineering change orders (ECOs) and engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Update and maintain CAD models, engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), and release documentation.
  • Identify and resolve drawing, BOM, and documentation discrepancies.
  • Support component obsolescence projects, including alternate component selection and implementation.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Service, and Quality teams to resolve product-related issues.
  • Design and implement improvements to existing packaging equipment and machine subsystems.
  • Lead small-to-medium redesign projects related to obsolescence, reliability improvements, and product standardization.
  • Participate in cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop concepts, models, drawings, and documentation for product enhancements.
  • Support senior engineers on modernization, technology development, and new product initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify designs, standardize components, and improve machine performance.



Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2-5 years of engineering experience, internships, co-ops, or equivalent hands-on engineering project experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks. Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or other documentation management systems preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of machine design preferred.
  • Experience with product improvement, reliability, or cost reduction projects preferred.
  • Travel - 10%.



Knowledge, Skills & Abilities



  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, machine design principles, and manufacturing processes.
  • Understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs, configuration management, and engineering change processes.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to balance detailed engineering implementation work with design and product improvement projects.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills across engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for design improvement, standardization, reliability enhancement, and cost reduction.
  • Demonstrated initiative, curiosity, and willingness to develop increasing levels of product ownership and technical responsibility.



Compensation


The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Pregis' total compensation package. The base pay range for this role is estimated to be $88,000 to $105,000, depending on experience and skills.
