The Dean's Office in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at UMKC is seeking a Senior Office Support Assistant (SOSA) to join their team. This individual will work closely with the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs and Graduate Programs.

The SHSS is home to ten departments and more than 25 academic degree options providing students with a curriculum that spans the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Our students leave the School of Humanities and Social Sciences with a thorough understanding of the world around them.

Job Description

The Senior Office Support Assistant plays a critical role in supporting graduate student success within the SHSS by monitoring all graduate students; tracking their program progress, and providing administrative support to students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Graduate and Undergraduate Program Administration: Coordinate and support the administrative operations of SHSS graduate and undergraduate academic programs, with primary responsibility for graduate programs, serving as a liaison with university offices, supporting program assessment, and ensuring effective implementation of academic policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Faculty and Student Support: Serve as a primary administrative resource for faculty, students, program directors, and advisors, providing guidance, coordinating processes, maintaining records, and resolving routine administrative issues. Support the promotion of faculty research and support faculty teaching through course evaluations and syllabus collection.
  • Communications and Engagement: Support school-wide communications and coordinate faculty and staff receptions and events.
  • Dean's Office and Operational Support: Coordinate the day-to-day administrative operations of the Dean's Office and provide administrative support to school leadership, including the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Graduate Programs.
  • Other duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission, priorities, and effective operation of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences.
Shift

Office Hours are on-site, Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Respect for the confidentiality of sensitive processes and the ability to maintain confidentiality in daily processes
  • Master's degree or experience with graduate programs and higher education
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency in standard office software (Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel)
  • Ability to work independently with little guidance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team
  • Evidence of proactive approach to initiatives
  • Ability to conduct independent research at the direction of the Associate Dean
Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $17.40 - $23.00 per hour.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
