Pulmonary Technologist

Training Location: You will train at Sibley Memorial Hospital for approximately six months: 5215 Loughboro Road, Washington, DC 20016
Permanent Location: 7171 Cardinal Lane, Falls Church, VA

Job Summary:

As a Pulmonary Technologist, you will perform pulmonary function tests and procedures to assess lung function and support the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disorders. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, accurate testing in accordance with established protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities:




  • Perform advanced pulmonary function testing, including spirometry, lung volume measurements, diffusion capacity, and bronchial provocation tests.



  • Calibrate and maintain testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.



  • Explain procedures to patients and ensure their comfort and safety during testing.



  • Monitor patients' vital signs and respond to adverse reactions.



  • Assist with individualized care plans and participate in multidisciplinary discussions.



  • Maintain detailed patient records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.



  • Provide training and mentorship to junior technologists and respiratory therapy students.




Who Should Apply:




  • Associate's degree in respiratory therapy, pulmonary technology, or a related field.



  • One year of relevant education may substitute for one year of required work experience, or one year of relevant professional-level work experience may substitute for one year of required education.



  • Two or more years of experience in pulmonary function testing and respiratory care.



  • Current Maryland Respiratory Care Practitioner licensure or Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) credential.



  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and computer skills necessary to perform the job.



  • Ability to work collaboratively, adapt to changing patient needs, and follow established safety, confidentiality, and clinical protocols.




Salary Range: Minimum 24.91/hour - Maximum 41.12/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
