Position Summary
The IT Consultant - Strategic Planning and Transformation serves as a trusted advisor within Duke Health Technology Solutions (DHTS), providing strategic consulting services that align technology initiatives with Duke Health's clinical, operational, research, and business objectives. This role partners with executive leaders, business stakeholders, and technical teams to evaluate organizational challenges, identify technology-enabled solutions, and develop strategies that advance digital transformation.
Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the Chief Digital Officer (CDO), the IT Consultant supports enterprise strategic planning, technology roadmap development, innovation initiatives, executive decision support, and value realization efforts. The consultant independently leads complex consulting engagements, facilitates strategic planning activities, conducts organizational assessments, and develops executive-level recommendations that help leaders prioritize investments and maximize business value.
This position collaborates across clinical, operational, research, technical, and administrative teams to improve organizational alignment, optimize technology investments, and support Duke Health's long-term digital strategy.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Consulting & Organizational Planning
* Serve as a strategic consultant to DHTS and organizational leaders by assessing business needs and recommending technology-enabled solutions.
* Support enterprise strategic planning, annual operating priorities, and long-range technology planning efforts.
* Conduct environmental scans, industry benchmarking, market research, and organizational assessments to support executive decision-making.
* Facilitate strategic planning sessions, stakeholder workshops, and cross-functional discussions.
* Develop recommendations that align technology initiatives with organizational priorities and business objectives.
* Monitor strategic initiatives and assist leaders in evaluating progress toward organizational goals.
Innovation Consulting & Emerging Technologies
* Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities that improve clinical, operational, and business outcomes.
* Partner with stakeholders to assess innovation opportunities for strategic alignment, business value, and operational readiness.
* Perform technology assessments, workflow evaluations, and business impact analyses.
* Develop executive recommendations regarding innovation investments and technology adoption.
* Support governance activities by providing objective analysis and consulting expertise throughout the evaluation process.
Technology Strategy & Roadmap Consulting
* Partner with business and IT leaders to develop multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with organizational strategy.
* Facilitate roadmap planning sessions that identify future capabilities, priorities, dependencies, and investment opportunities.
* Analyze organizational initiatives to identify alignment opportunities across departments and technology portfolios.
* Provide consulting expertise that improves visibility into future technology investments and enterprise priorities.
* Support annual planning and prioritization through strategic analysis and roadmap development.
Executive Advisory & Leadership Communications
* Develop executive presentations, dashboards, strategic reports, business cases, and briefing materials.
* Translate complex technical, clinical, operational, and financial information into concise recommendations for executive audiences.
* Prepare materials supporting governance committees, executive leadership meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
* Communicate organizational priorities, project outcomes, technology strategies, and business value in a clear and actionable manner.
* Present findings and recommendations to leadership while facilitating informed decision-making.
Business Analysis & Value Realization
* Define performance measures and key performance indicators that demonstrate the effectiveness of technology initiatives.
* Analyze operational, financial, and service metrics to evaluate organizational performance and project outcomes.
* Develop executive dashboards highlighting strategic progress, business value, and organizational impact.
* Support business case development, cost-benefit analyses, and benefits realization activities.
* Provide recommendations for continuous improvement based on data analysis, stakeholder feedback, and organizational performance.

Education
Required
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Communications, Information Technology, or a related field.
Preferred

* Minimum seven years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare, technology, strategy, consulting, operations, communications, or related fields.
* Demonstrated experience supporting executive-level strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
* Experience developing executive presentations, reports, and communication materials.
* Experience working across diverse stakeholder groups in complex organizational environments.
Preferred
* Experience within an academic health system, large healthcare organization, consulting firm, or technology organization.
* Experience with digital transformation, innovation programs, strategic planning, or healthcare technology.
* Experience supporting executive leadership, governance committees, or board-level reporting.
