Now Hiring: Accounting Manager - Direct Hire

Base Salary: $100,000-$150,000 per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and level of responsibility.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join a growing, publicly traded civil construction company. This position will play a critical role in overseeing financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, financial analysis, and operational accounting while serving as a key business partner to senior leadership and corporate finance.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, financial reporting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management, along with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, actionable insights for executive and corporate audiences.

This is a high-visibility position for a finance professional who is comfortable working in a publicly traded environment, managing deadlines, preparing executive-level presentations, and partnering across operations, project management, and corporate finance.

Job Duties

Financial Reporting & Accounting



  • Oversee and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes.
  • Prepare and analyze divisional and company-levelP&L statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, and other financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Analyze financial results, identify variances, and provide explanations and recommendations to management.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies consistent with public-company requirements.
  • Partner with corporate accounting and finance teams to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting.
  • Support external audit and review processes as required.


FP&A, Budgeting & Forecasting



  • Lead theannual budgeting and forecasting process for the business unit/division.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts based on operational performance, backlog, project activity, labor requirements, equipment, and other key construction drivers.
  • Perform monthly financial forecasting and rolling outlooks.
  • Analyze actual results versus budget, forecast, and prior-year performance.
  • Identify trends, risks, opportunities, and potential impacts to profitability and cash flow.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic and operational decisions.
  • Work closely with operations and project leadership to improve financial visibility and accountability.


Corporate & Executive Reporting



  • Prepareformal financial presentations and reporting packages for corporate leadership and senior management.
  • Present financial results, forecasts, budgets, and key performance indicators to corporate stakeholders.
  • Translate financial data into concise business insights and recommendations.
  • Develop dashboards and KPIs to monitor operational and financial performance.
  • Respond to corporate requests for financial analysis, reporting, and ad hoc projects.
  • Assist with public-company reporting requirements and corporate initiatives as needed.


Leadership & Business Partnership



  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to operations and senior leadership.
  • Develop strong relationships with project managers, operations leaders, corporate finance, and executive management.
  • Provide financial guidance to non-financial leaders and help drive financial accountability throughout the organization.
  • Identify process improvements and opportunities to strengthen accounting and financial reporting capabilities.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance personnel as the organization grows.


Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree inAccounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience, preferably within the construction, civil construction, infrastructure, engineering, or related industries.
  • Strong experience withfinancial reporting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
  • Construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with project/job-cost accounting and construction financial metrics.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
  • Experience presenting financial information to senior leadership or corporate executives.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
  • Experience with ERP/accounting systems; construction-specific ERP experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications



  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation.
  • Experience working for apublicly traded company.
  • Experience supporting SEC reporting or public-company financial processes.
  • Experience with construction project accounting, percentage-of-completion accounting, or revenue recognition.
  • Experience leading or mentoring accounting/finance teams.
  • Experience partnering directly with corporate finance, executive leadership, or a public-company finance organization.


The ideal candidate brings a combination ofaccounting expertise, construction-industry knowledge, FP&A capability, executive presence, and strong business judgment.
