Job Description
Responsibilities are interchangeable within the job titles of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist. The specific work environment/department will be listed in the requirement.
Day to Day Responsibilities of this Position and Description of Project/Assignment :
You will be working as a tech in a generalist lab. You will assist the 2nd shift techs, lab assistants, phlebs, and care coordinators with general lab flow and core lab instrumentation. 2nd shift does some chemistry maintenance, chemistry qc, urinalysis qc, and hematology qc. 2nd shift is generally a fast-paced environment that requires strong teamwork and communication skills.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
- Assist with specimen processing when needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related field, or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
- 0-2 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
- State Medical Technologist license may be required, as specified in the requirement.
- ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required, as specified in the requirement.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
- High level of attention to detail, along with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
