Department Overview

Corporate Communications and Community Relations provides effective and consistent messaging and a positive brand image for Blue Cross. The division produces multi-media communications for external and internal audiences, tracks industry developments, monitors issues of public interest and formulates Blue Cross' public relations strategy and responses to media inquiries. The division also leads Blue Cross' corporate giving and The Caring Foundation in support of charitable nonprofits and initiatives statewide improving the health, wellness and education of Alabamians.

Primary Responsibilities

This position conducts various functions within Community Relations, The Caring Foundation and Corporate Giving department which includes:

  • Monitor and maintain Foundation assets and the Corporate Giving cost center.
  • Administering, facilitating, and distributing grant initiatives and corporate giving investments that address The Caring Foundation's mission.
  • Leverage community investments and philanthropic initiatives to positively strengthen Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama's public perception and demonstrate its commitment to improving the health and well-being of Alabamians.
  • Cultivating, collaborating, and maintaining relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, task forces, coalitions, and other foundations to maximize the impact of charitable giving initiatives across the state.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve innovative programs and projects that support the missions of The Caring Foundation and Corporate Giving.
  • Lead initiatives that improve health outcomes and support healthier communities throughout Alabama, particularly among children and underserved populations of our state.
  • Manage multiple projects, initiatives, and stakeholder relationships simultaneously while ensuring alignment with quarterly departmental goals and objectives.
  • Enhance our Company's brand image and community presence among grantees, stakeholders, customers, and community partners statewide.
  • Lead and manage The Caring Foundation and Community Relations team by fulfilling all requirements and responsibilities of the management role.

The incumbent works independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to advance community health initiatives that promote healthy lifestyles for Alabamians, while managing multiple projects. This position requires exceptional communication and relationship-building skills with all levels of management, community leaders, external stakeholders including nonprofit organizations, and elected officials. The incumbent must be comfortable serving as a spokesperson and representing the company through media interviews, public events, social media and other communication platforms.

Summary of Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Three years of management experience including selecting, training, and motivating associates utilizing Performance Management
  • Experience in grant-making or non-profit management including budget management
  • Strong organizational skills including planning, delegating, time management and task facilitation
  • Strong written and oral communications skills, including collaborating and communicating with upper management and Officers
  • Experience interfacing and engaging with customers, diverse groups and organizations in order to maintain and enhance the foundation's mission
  • Demonstrated experience leading and collaborating with staff
  • Strategic planning and implementation experience
  • Public speaking experience
  • Willingness to travel in and out of state frequently
  • Experience documenting projects in a concise and thorough manner
  • Advanced Degree preferred
Work Location

The work schedule for this position will be full-time onsite.
