Central Processing Operations Supervisor

JOB DETAILS

Department: Central Processing
FTE: 1.0 (80 hours per pay period)
Workdays: Monday - Friday
Shift(s): Evenings
Shift Length: 8 hours
Location: In-Person

Purpose of this position: Supervises and coordinates all daily operations/duties of all five areas of Central Processing Department's (CPD) locations: CSC, P4, OLL including decontamination processes, scope reprocessing, high-level disinfection, sterile processing and case-cart picking in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC), DHS, AAMI, AORN, and SGNA standards. Provides support to on-campus and off-campus clinical departments, and OR for equipment and instrumentation to support patient safety, infection control policies, and departmental operations. Performs supervisory functions for the Central Processing department. This includes hiring, orienting, training, coaching, quality auditing, discipline, conducting annual performance evaluations and overall staff development along with ensuring that unit/department metrics are met. Act as primary liaison to other departments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Communicates with Central Processing Department (CPD) Manager, nursing, and operations on all supply and instrument tray changes

• Monitors and maintains inventory to ensure an adequate level of sterile supplies and instrumentation including ordering implants in the absence of OR Implant Coordinator

• Orders storeroom and direct purchase supplies for CPD areas

• Facilitates recall procedures for supplies and instruments. Provides supervisory level direction and support in planning, organizing, and coordinating the activities of the CPD

• Coaches, counsels and disciplines staff, including enforcing departmental policies and procedures, according to hospital and department policies, procedures and attendance records

• Coordinates the orientation of new employees

• Schedules all areas of CPD: Orange Lower Level, G1 Scope room, P4 instrument room, CSC Scope Room and CSC CPD staffing base on need

• Responds to emergency situations, problems, special requests and routine inquiries during the office hour, off-hours and weekends

• Assists in evaluation of new products both supply and instruments. Records evaluations and recommend products based on the regulatory standards

• Ensures the proper handling, storage and rotation of all sterile instruments and supplies

• Maintains all records of sterilizers, BI, GI Scope and flash sterilizers including biological and chemical monitoring

• Ensures staff is meeting production requirements per departmental standard operating procedures by addressing problems and obstacles in a timely fashion

• Manages continuous quality improvement initiatives and participates in Lean events. Defines standards for department performance (customer satisfaction, financial, productivity, etc.) and evaluates business unit/department performance against those standards

• Sets clear direction and priorities through the identification and implementation of effective processes and procedures for accomplishing work. Train staff and perform annual competency per AAMI and SGNA standards. Monitors FTE's and utilizes staff and other resources efficiently and effectively per departmental budget of FTE and supplies, within own department and collaboratively across Supply Chain

• Builds and develops staff; fosters collaboration within and across Operating room, on-campus and off-campus clinics, GI scope room and Supply Chain

• Achieves organizational goals through coaching, providing feedback, setting performance goals, and motivating staff to meet and exceed those goals

• Adheres to HCMC policies and procedures as well as complies with applicable regulatory: SGNA, AAMI, AORN, TJC, DHS requirements

• Tracks and monitors supplies and instruments distributed to OR, on-campus clinics, off-campus clinics, and Emergency department

• Assists in obtaining quotes for instruments and repairs and recommendation of the mode of sterilization

• Attends 12 hours of continuing education system (CES) to stay current with regulations and requirements and participates in local CPD professional groups

• Responsible for organizing and ensuring cleanliness of all areas

• Responsible for timely shipment and/or internal delivery of inventory, repairs, supplies or mail

• Other duties as assigned after appropriate training

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent

• Minimum of two years' experience in a lead or supervisory role within a Supply Chain/Material Management/Sterile Processing department

• Certified Central Service Technician (CRCST)

• An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of and experience with PeopleSoft preferred

• Knowledge of and experience with Lean preferred

• Certified Central Service Technician (CRCST)
