Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized professional services consulting firm, is seeking a full-time, limited-term Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Greenhouse Gas Reduction Mechanical Engineering Team in our West Allis, WI office. This internship is anticipated to begin in May/June 2027 and continue through August/September 2027.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers on meaningful projects that support sustainability and infrastructure improvements. There is also potential for this internship to transition into a full-time engineering position upon graduation.

As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will support engineers and project teams on a variety of mechanical engineering projects while gaining exposure to all phases of project development and design.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting engineers with mechanical system design, analysis, and evaluation
  • Supporting design activities such as alternatives evaluation, equipment sizing, system layout development, and equipment selection/specification preparation
  • Assisting with the preparation and updating of drawings, technical memorandums, calculations, and project documentation
  • Gathering and organizing technical data in support of engineering studies and design projects
  • Utilizing engineering software and other design tools to support project development
  • Collaborating with mechanical engineers, project managers, designers, and other multidisciplinary team members
  • Developing technical skills through mentorship and guidance from experienced engineers
  • May participate in site visits, client meetings, and project coordination activities
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Completed at least four semesters of college-level coursework in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Previous industrial internship experience
  • Mechanical design coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and/or heat transfer
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong enthusiasm for learning and professional development
  • Eagerness to grow technical and projectbased skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A positive, proactive attitude and willingness to seek feedback

Physical Requirements:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
