Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Data Center Resident Field Engineer to provide dedicated on-site hardware break/fix support for a mission-critical compute environment. This role serves as the primary point of contact for hardware incident response, component replacement, and preventive maintenance across HPE ProLiant rack/blade servers, HPE Apollo liquid-cooled high-density compute systems, and HPE MSA storage arrays. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in enterprise or HPC data center environments and is comfortable working with direct liquid cooling (DLC) infrastructure. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site resident engineer for day-to-day hardware break/fix on HPE ProLiant (DL/ML/BL series), Apollo (2000/6500/s6500 or similar liquid-cooled platforms), and MSA storage systems
- Diagnose and resolve hardware failures: DIMMs, CPUs, drives, power supplies, NICs, RAID/HBA controllers, backplanes, and system boards
- Perform component-level replacement and RMA processing in coordination with HPE support and the client's ticketing/CMMS system
- Support and maintain direct liquid cooling (DLC) infrastructure on Apollo systems - cold plates, manifolds, quick-disconnects, coolant distribution units (CDUs), leak detection, and fluid quality checks
- Execute firmware/BIOS updates and manage system health via HPE iLO, OneView, and Smart Storage Administrator tools
- Perform rack-and-stack, cabling (power, network, fiber), and physical installs/decommissions as needed
- Conduct root cause analysis on recurring hardware failures and document findings
- Maintain accurate asset records, serial number tracking, and inventory of spare parts/FRUs
- Follow strict data center safety, ESD, and change management protocols, including work during approved maintenance windows
- Escalate complex issues to HPE support/engineering and coordinate vendor dispatches when required
- Provide shift handoff documentation and status reporting to client stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on hardware break/fix experience in an enterprise or hyperscale/HPC data center environment
- Direct hands-on experience with HPE ProLiant servers (installation, diagnostics, component replacement)
- Experience with HPE Apollo systems and liquid-cooled/DLC infrastructure (cold plates, CDUs, manifolds)
- Experience with HPE MSA storage arrays (disk replacement, controller diagnostics, firmware)
- Proficiency with HPE iLO, OneView, and related management/diagnostic tools
- Working knowledge of RAID configurations, storage protocols (SAS/SATA/NVMe), and networking basics (copper/fiber cabling)
- Ability to lift/rack heavy equipment (50+ lbs) and work in a data center environment (noise, temperature-controlled spaces)
- Strong documentation habits and ticketing system experience (ServiceNow, Remedy, or similar)
- Ability to pass background check and site-specific security clearance/badging requirements
Preferred Qualifications - HPE certifications (ASE, ATP, or equivalent)
- Experience with GPU-dense compute platforms (NVIDIA HGX/Blackwell or similar) in liquid-cooled environments
- Familiarity with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools
- Prior experience in a dedicated/resident engineer model supporting a single enterprise client
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in a raised-floor data center environment, including exposure to cold aisle/hot aisle temperature variance
- Ability to stand, kneel, and lift equipment for extended periods
