Job Summary Under the supervision of a licensed clinician, the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) provides clinical and administrative support to facilitate high-quality eye care in outpatient clinics and procedural settings. The role performs ophthalmic testing and imaging, prepares patients for examinations and procedures, supports minor office procedures, and assists with the efficient operation of clinical services.Does this position require Patient Care? Yes Essential Functions -Perform a variety of vision and ocular testing, imaging, and assessments to prepare patients for comprehensive eye examinations and clinical evaluations. -Identify and administer diagnostic eye drops as directed by the licensed clinician and in accordance with established protocols. -Assist ophthalmologists with minor office procedures, including medical laser treatments, injections, cryotherapy, and oculoplastic procedures, under appropriate supervision and direction. -Obtain and document vital signs as needed for procedures and patient care. -Maintain exam rooms and clinical areas with appropriate medical and ophthalmic supplies. -Clean, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance of ophthalmic equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and hospital infection control standards. -Safely handle, store, and transport specimens, instruments, and medications in accordance with established procedures. -Support administrative functions as assigned, including patient call triage and in-basket management. -Provide cross-coverage for other ophthalmology services and locations as needed to support patient care and department operations. -Follow hospital policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as established accreditation and patient safety standards.
