Job Description

The Principal Engineerfunctions as a seasoned, highly autonomous engineer with responsibility for major project scopes, complex subsystems, or complete engineering solutions. The role independently drives technical execution, contributes to architectural or systemlevel decisions, and collaborates across functions to align engineering outcomes with business objectives. Success is demonstrated through technical excellence, leadership in problem resolution, and sustained impact on product, system, or process performance.

Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Technical Leadership

Lead the design, analysis, and development of complex systems, components, or processes
Establish technical approaches, design concepts, and engineering tradeoffs for assigned projects
Interpret and apply industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
Review and approve technical designs, calculations, and engineering deliverables
Contribute to system architecture and longterm technical decisions within the discipline

Testing, Validation & Complex Problem Resolution

Define and oversee testing, validation, and verification strategies for complex engineering solutions
Analyze complex data and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions are implemented
Lead resolution of difficult, crossfunctional technical issues and failure investigations
Ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, safety, and quality expectations

Documentation & Engineering Governance

Lead development, review, and approval of engineering documentation including specifications, reports, calculations, and drawings
Ensure adherence to configuration management, change control, and formal review processes
Maintain compliance with internal quality systems and applicable regulatory standards

CrossFunctional & Project Collaboration

Partner with manufacturing, quality, operations, supply chain, and service teams to support development, implementation, and sustainment
Provide technical leadership during implementation, production rampup, or field deployment
Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

Mentor and provide technical guidance to EngineerI-III employees
Serve as a technical resource and escalation point within the engineering team
Share best practices and lessons learned to enhance team capability and consistency
Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and standards

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in designing, manufacturing and testing of medium voltage inverters.

  • Code Knowledge of Power Grid Interface

  • AutoCAD, Easy Power or ETAP experience for Modeling and Generating Reports for Power Flow, Protective Relays, Harmonic Studies, Short Circuit, Arc Flash, etc.

  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices relevant to the discipline

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering work independently

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decisionmaking skills

  • Proficiency with advanced engineering tools, software, and analytical methods

  • Indepth understanding of applicable codes, standards, and regulatory constraints

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to influence technical direction and collaborate across functions

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and ethical engineering practices

Additional Job Details

The MV Drive Engineer, Nidec Conversion must have knowledge of the following:

  • Medium Voltage Power Systems and Electrical Safety Standards.

  • Power Electronics and Motor Control Principles.

  • MV Drive Design and Manufacturing.

  • MV Drive Control Software Algorithm.

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Test (FAT), Ensuring Hardware/Software Design is Functional

  • MV Drives Applications

  • NEC and UL Rules for Medium Voltage Applications.

  • AutoCAD to prepare electrical drawings for power and control systems.

  • Preparation of Technical Documentation (datasheet, technical specification, products).
