What you'll do:

IT Systems Engineer position is responsible to provide advanced support and perform routine maintenance on company's IT servers, security, email, backup, and disaster recovery services. Identify processes, procedures, scripting, or other methodologies whereby manual work may be simplified, structured, or replaced by automation. Provide expert technical support for desktop and server issues. Ensure that all IT services are properly maintained and upgraded, including anti-virus, backups, imaging, and patching, along with software product life cycle management and operating system deployment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Install, configure, automate:
Microsoft 365 / Office 365 (platform support, licensing and billing administration)
SharePoint administration (structure, storage, permissions, optimization)
Microsoft Teams administration and support

* Work with Azure infrastructure by:
reviewing the environment and identifying improvement opportunities
discussing cost or performance optimization

* Ability to foresee potential issues and ensure the highest level of system availability by:
monitoring existing systems for abnormal operating conditions
reviewing event log events, up/down status, and error conditions where applicable
identifying gaps in the current environment and recommending improvements

* Ability to work with developers or stakeholders on integrations and implement system improvements or fixes.

* Provide custom scripting or automation to increase system efficiency, including support process improvements and documentation updates.

* Monitor existing systems for abnormal operating conditions:
event log events
up/down status
error conditions

* Solve reported issues by testing, evaluating, and troubleshooting:
Microsoft platform components (M365, SharePoint, Teams)
Azure infrastructure and related environment changes
hardware/software/applications when applicable

* Provide technical assistance to IT service desk support staff and junior engineers.

* Implement security, systems, and redundant backup practices to maintain the environment.

* Liaise with vendors, associates, and other IT personnel for problem resolution.

* Assist in the definition or modification of hardware, software, or environmental standards as required.

* Work with both On-Premises and Cloud/Platform as a Service environments where applicable (Azure and related platform services).

* Provide Microsoft platform support for application environments, including both COTS and custom/internal applications.

* Support documentation standards and maintain repeatable operational procedures: SOPs and support documentation
process documentation and implementation notes

* Participate in scheduled after-hours rotation approximately one week out of every eight weeks.

What you need to be successful:

* Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field
* Demonstrated prior experience as either a systems administrator or junior systems engineer, required
* 7 + years' experience in system engineering or IT support, required
* System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and Intune experience is desired

* Office 365 administration experience, including application licensing and billing.

* SharePoint administration experience, including structure, storage, permissions, support, and optimization.

* Microsoft Teams administration and support experience.

* Azure infrastructure experience, including reviewing an environment and recommending improvement opportunities (including cost/performance considerations).

* Experience supporting both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) applications and custom/internal applications.

* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated ability to document processes and explain technical recommendations.

* Strong documentation mindset-able to create processes, standard operating procedures, and repeatable support documentation.

* Comfortable operating independently with minimal direction and able to assess current-state environments and recommend improvements.
