Software Engineer

Location: Offutt AFB, NE

Minimum Clearance Required: Top Secret

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance with SCI eligibility. U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position necessitates an active U.S. Government Security Clearance for employment. Non-U.S. citizens are not eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance. The Department of Defense Consolidated Adjudications Facility (DoD CAF), a federal government agency, handles the adjudicative aspects of the security clearance process for industry applicants. Adjudicative factors which affect the outcome of the eligibility determination include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the U.S., foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations, and illegal drug use.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for serving as the primary expert in a specialized technical area, such as information technology or a specific software application, and act as the recognized authority for that expertise within AFLNWCNCC. They will support the organization's vision and strategic direction by applying extensive theoretical and practical software engineering knowledge. Responsibilities include reviewing, preparing, and analyzing a wide range of documentation, including planning materials, requirements, design documents, support information, and test documentation.

  • Ability to serve as the organization's definitive source of technical knowledge, technique, and expertise within the assigned specialty
  • Demonstrated capability to apply broad theoretical and practical knowledge of software engineering principles
  • Ability to review, prepare, and analyze a wide range of technical documentation, including planning documents, requirements, design artifacts, support materials, and test documentation
  • Experience working with source code, configuration files, and engineering resolution activities Skill in applying software engineering methodologies in support of organizational vision and strategic direction
  • DoD Directive (DoDD) 8570 Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level II certification Information Assurance Manager Level II certification
  • Ability to support cybersecurity specialists by ensuring hardware, operating systems, and software applications meet required security standards for the Computing Environment (CE)
  • Experience sustaining information security assurance processes to meet complex, systemwide cybersecurity requirements



What You Will Do:



  • Provide support that may include source code, configuration files, and engineering resolution assistance.
  • Possess DoD Directive (DoDD) 8570 Information Assurance Management (IAM) Level II certification and Information Assurance Manager Level II certification to assist the Cyber Security Specialist with ensuring hardware, operating systems, and software application designs adequately address security requirements for the Computing Environment (CE).
  • Sustain information security assurance processes that satisfy complex systemwide requirements.
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments, and clear code.
  • Improve operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
  • Obtain and license software by gathering required information from vendors, recommending purchases, testing, and approving products.
  • Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues.
  • Perform Software Quality Assurance (SQA) to ensure developed software complies with defined or standardized quality specifications.
  • Work as a member of an agile software development team, performing a mix of assigned tasks at the request of the government team lead or engineering lead.
  • Elaborate highlevel feature/function descriptions into detailed technical designs and tasks in collaboration with users and government lead engineers.
  • Perform coding tasks for features/functions.
  • Perform coding tasks for functional and performance tests for features/functions.
  • Perform peer design and code reviews with other team members.
  • Perform coding/scripting tasks for software build, packaging, and deployment.
  • Perform other software engineering and documentation tasks as assigned.
  • Understand, articulate, and implement best practices related to the specific area of expertise.
  • At Government request, lead or actively participate in workgroups requiring specialized knowledge.
  • Provide guidance on how the area of capability can resolve organizational needs and actively participate in all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Define business requirements and recommend technical approaches to meet system or software application needs.
  • Generate design specifications for software development, including translating business requirements into detailed algorithms for coding.
  • Assist the Government in overseeing the development, testing, and implementation of technical solutions and validate that the final product satisfies the defined requirements.
  • Review technical documentation such as user guides, training manuals, and system specifications before distribution to end users, ensuring accurate representation of the subject area.
