DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, schedule, assign and coordinate the work of Custodians and Senior Custodians during an entire work shift with responsibility for designating station or area assignments. Orient, train and/or assist supervisor in determining duties, utilizing materials and equipment, developing work methods, and interpreting policies and procedures. Responsible for tracking, issuing and/or storing custodial supplies and equipment. Responsible for issuing keys and securing facilities. Perform semi-skilled and skilled cleaning and general maintenance duties within Recreation facilities. Facilities include but not are not limited to RIMAC, LionTree Arena, RIMAC Annex, Outback Adventures, Canyonview Aquatic Center, Spanos, Main Gym, and Outdoor fields and stadiums. Sweep, mop, finish, dust, vacuum, clean, polish and refinish floors and clean windows. Clean and disinfect restrooms, shower and/or locker rooms. Empty and clean wastebaskets, ashtrays and other waste receptacles, power wash, and any other duties related to maintaining the cleanliness of the Recreation facilities, inside and out. Must be able to operate equipment including but not limited to vacuum cleaners, floor scrubber, buffers, high pressure washer, carpet cleaning machines (shampoo, extract, pile lift), wet/dry vacuums, extractors, floor scrubbing and/or polishing machines during cleaning operations. Perform physical set-up of furniture and equipment (tables, chairs, staging, floor tiles) according to diagrams and instructions. Inspect equipment for quality and safety. Responsible for insuring the facility is secure at the end of the shift. Work with building occupants to answer questions regarding custodial or special set up services performed. Effectively work with campus customers and custodial team members to accomplish work with a high level of quality and efficiency. Build and maintain strong customer and team relations through a professional and helpful approach in handling customers' needs and problems. Responsible for insuring the facility is secure at the end of the shift.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience performing semi-skilled and skilled custodial duties.

  • Demonstrated experience in operating, storing and maintaining the following equipment: vacuums, buffers, wet-dry vacuums, carpet rotary shampooers, steam extractors, high-pressure washers.

  • Demonstrated experience in carpet care: spot clean, shampoo and extract.

  • Ability to lead and direct the work of others in order to conduct orientation and training, schedule and coordinate assignments, develop work methods, coordinate and direct work, prioritize workload, evaluate employee productivity and performance and interpret/communicate policies and procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret written information and instructions, including daily operations reports, which are integral in performing the various set-ups of furniture and equipment.

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing. Writing skills must be sufficient to prepare reports, complete forms and to communicate effectively with others as necessary.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of co-workers, students, staff, faculty and customers.

  • Ability to safely lift, carry, move, push and pull a minimum load of 50 lbs. Knowledge of proper lifting techniques and ability to determine techniques to others.

  • Must be flexible and able to effectively adjust to changing operational priorities requiring assignment of special projects and/or different area assignments as necessary. Ability to work independently and with diverse teams of people.

  • Must be physically able to consistently perform job duties

  • Must be able to safely operate vehicles (cart and pickup trucks).

  • Knowledge of industry safety standards including proper use and mixture of cleaning chemicals. Knowledge of proper storage, labeling, and distribution of cleaning chemicals. Ability to update and maintain MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheets) notebooks and communicate this information to other custodial staff.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

  • Will be required to hold valid driver's license and have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures.

  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, move, push and pull a minimum load of 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday; 10:30 pm - 7:00 am.

  • Must be available to work occasional overtime with little or no advance notice.

  • Must be able to work onsite.

  • Must be able to work in all areas of Campus.

  • This position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in University of California - Policy CANRA.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $55,583 - $73,331 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.62 - $35.12

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
