Overview

Responsible for the Claims Business Intelligence & Analytics department charged with the optimization of analytics to drive insights, tactical decision making and strategic direction. Responsible for leading projects to improve the ongoing decision making within PL, CL and Claims by delivering information, developing tools, projects and data insights that lead to better decision making. Responsible for delivering analytics as input to critical business decisions while developing the analytic roadmap to deepen capabilities to meet evolving business needs.


Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of a business intelligence strategy including defining key business metrics and analytic needs for implementation including dashboards, scorecards and overall reporting solutions. Support continuous improvement and adopt industry and technology best practice.
  • Identify and monitor key factors that could influence Underwriting and Claim performance while evaluating and recommending new influences. Insure that insights from this information are used to drive premium growth, profitability improvement and operational effectiveness across all regions.
  • Determine frameworks for addressing business problems, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to solve. Lead and review statistical / data / financial analyses. Execute project implementation plans, which include gathering resources, identifying team members, and assigning tasks, developing timelines and establishing scope of responsibilities.
  • Drive stakeholder engagement, communications, business readiness, deployment, and change management relative to all aspects of knowledge management.
  • Develop Selective's data-driven decision making capabilities. Stay abreast of relevant developments in the industry or relevant academic disciplines, and consider potential relevant opportunities. Identify opportunities upgrade capabilities by means of third parties and/or access new distinctive data sources.
  • Partners with IT staff in the on-going development and support of the data warehouse and BI environment.
  • Identify and monitor key factors that could influence claim performance while evaluating and recommending new influences. Insure that insights from this information are incorporated into strategic and financial plans. Compiles and maintenance of detailed claim metrics that will be used to quantify expected benefits from proposed claim projects.
  • Responsible for the gathering, preparation, and delivery of insurance operational information, metrics and reporting. Includes the establishment of a structured information governance program.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

  • Proficient with Microsoft BI tools - Cognos, MS SharePoint, SQL, Access, Excel. Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities. Comprehensive data warehouse analysis and design experience, including data warehouse methodologies and data modeling a plus. Strong customer service, networking, and relationship building skills; ability to interface with senior management. General insurance industry knowledge. Strong project management skills.

Education and Experience

  • College degree preferred. 10 years Underwriting, Claims, Loss Control, insurance-related experience, or financial services experience
  • 5+ years specific Claims experience preferred
  • 5+ years experience leading teams to deliver complex Business Intelligence projects.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
