Overview
Location: Elmhurst, IL
Schedule: 100% Onsite, 5 days per week
Hours: 30-40 hours per week
Job Type: Contract
About the Role
We are seeking a talented and visually driven Print Designer to join our creative team onsite in Elmhurst. This role is ideal for a designer who can do more than execute or resize existing layouts-you should have a strong creative eye and the ability to develop thoughtful, polished designs from concept through final production. The initial focus will be on designing 8.5 x 11 brochures and other print materials supporting State of Illinois initiatives. You'll translate complex information into clear, engaging visual communications while maintaining a high level of design quality and attention to detail. This is a contract opportunity with potential for conversion in the future, although conversion is not guaranteed.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize & Design: Develop compelling layouts for brochures and other print collateral, including projects created from the ground up.
- Editorial Design: Create clean, engaging layouts that effectively organize and communicate complex information.
- Brand Stewardship: Apply established brand guidelines while making thoughtful design decisions around layout, typography, imagery, and color.
- Typography & Composition: Demonstrate a strong understanding of grids, hierarchy, typography, spacing, composition, and visual balance.
- Image Editing: Use Photoshop to edit, enhance, and composite imagery as needed.
- Print Production: Prepare accurate, press-ready files, including bleeds, trims, color profiles, image resolution, and final file specifications.
- Collaboration: Work closely with stakeholders, copywriters, and other team members onsite to incorporate feedback and quickly refine designs.
- Quality Control: Maintain a high level of accuracy across layouts, typography, alignment, imagery, and final production files.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional graphic design experience, with a strong emphasis on print.
- A portfolio demonstrating true design capability, including original concepts, thoughtful layouts, editorial design, and polished print work.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of print design and production requirements.
- Excellent eye for typography, layout, composition, and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to take content and develop it into an engaging, visually cohesive design-not simply place copy into an existing template.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfortable working onsite in Elmhurst, IL, five days per week.
Portfolio Requirement
A strong portfolio is required. Candidates should provide examples that demonstrate their ability to design and conceptualize print materials, particularly brochures, editorial layouts, and other multi-page collateral. Production-only work or portfolios primarily focused on template execution will not be a strong fit. #LI-BS1
