Position Summary: The Data Center Development Representative supports Black Hills Energy's strategic growth initiatives by identifying and advancing data center business development opportunities. This role builds relationships with internal business partners, conducts market research and analysis, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to support customer opportunities and growth initiatives. The position assists in customer engagement activities, business case development, and opportunity evaluation to help position the company as a preferred utility partner and support the successful development of data center growth opportunities. Pay Range: This posting includes the full pay range for this position. Pay is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. Representative: $79,400 - $119,100 Senior Representative: $97,150 - $160,150 Reporting Relationship: VP of Strategic Growth Location: Rapid City, SD Relocation Assistance: Relocation assistance is available based on individual circumstances! Essential Functions: * Support the identification, qualification, and development of data center business opportunities within targeted markets and service territories. * Conduct market research and gather competitive intelligence to identify industry trends, customer needs, regulatory requirements, and emerging data center opportunities to inform strategic decisions. * Prepare proposals, contracts, comprehensive reports, presentations, and other business development materials for senior management, highlighting key findings and showcasing the company's value proposition. * Assist in customer meetings, presentations, and discussions by preparing materials, coordinating follow up activities, and providing relevant business insights. * Identify opportunities to improve business development, customer engagement strategies, and reporting tools to enhance operational effectiveness. * Coordinate with internal stakeholders, including regulatory, finance, generation, engineering, operations, and legal to support evaluation and advancement of customer opportunities. * Support financial, operational, and business analyses related to customer opportunities, growth initiatives, and market development activities. * Maintain and track customer opportunities, project milestones, action items, providing regular updates to leadership.
Additional Responsibilities: * Develop and maintain relationships with prospective customers, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to support data center development opportunities. * Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and customer meetings to strengthen relationships and promote the company's capabilities. * Other duties as assigned.
What Is Required: All Levels: * Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Public Policy, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. * This role will be required to travel up to 10% of the time. Representative: * Minimum of 3 years' experience in business development, finance, account management, project management, market research or a related role is required. * Understanding of fundamental business principles, including market dynamics, competitive positioning, customer needs, and strategic growth initiatives. * Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare presentations, reports, proposals, and business development materials for internal and external audiences. * Ability to conduct market research, gather competitive intelligence, analyze information, and develop actionable insights to support business development efforts and customer engagement activities. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and customer relationship management (CRM) systems, with the ability to develop professional reports, dashboards, and customer-facing materials. * Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, track key milestones, coordinate stakeholder involvement, and support opportunity advancement. * Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across functions, including regulatory, engineering, finance, generation, transmission, operations, and legal teams to support customer development activities. Senior Representative: * Minimum of 5 years' experience in business development, data analytics, market research or a related role is required. * Demonstrated experience developing customer relationships and advancing complex business opportunities from initial engagement through implementation. * Strong understanding of business development principles, market dynamics, customer needs, competitive positioning, and strategic growth initiatives. * Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, partners, and leadership. * Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to support business cases, evaluate project economics, and assess opportunity risks and benefits. * Advanced organizational, project coordination, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines. * Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across regulatory, engineering, finance, generation, transmission, operations, and legal functions. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, CRM systems, and business reporting tools. What Is Desired: * Experience in the utility or data center industry is preferred. * Working knowledge of the data center industry, including customer requirements, market drivers, site selection considerations, and the role utility services play in supporting data center operations. * Familiarity with utility regulation, large customer service structures, generation resources, and data center development. * Demonstrated initiative, sound judgement, and ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
