Description This role manages the most complex accounting functions, leads department projects, sets accounting standards and procedures, and implements changes for new products. Responsibilities include independent research on complex issues, overseeing operations and reporting, staff development, and enterprise-level control evaluation. This role will assess and improve controls, reduce risk and cost, and enhance efficiency. Strong technical accounting, systems, and process expertise are required. Effective communication with cross-functional teams and senior leadership is essential, including clearly explaining complex topics with a strategic perspective. Here's what you can expect from the job and what you need to be successful: What You'll Do:
- Exercise administrative judgment and responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on the accounting department.
- Monitor and analyze department work to develop proper internal controls, more efficient procedures, and the use of resources, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and completeness.
- Develop and lead a high-performing team by providing coaching, clear development paths, and a collaborative environment.
- Analyzes studies of general economic, business, and financial conditions for use in making decisions relating to policies, operational goals, budgets, forecasts, investments, and dividend rates.
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the preparation of internal and external reporting requirements, assigned analysis, and projects.
- Responsible for the sound record keeping of the Credit Union - consistent with GAAP and all state and federal regulatory requirements.
- Provide accounting information and recommendations to strategic plans and financial reviews, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Resolves non-routine accounting concerns for department and other key stakeholders by researching and interpreting accounting policy, applying observations and recommendations to operational issues, and ensuring compliance with GAAP.
- Confirms financial status by coordinating the collection, consolidation, and evaluation of financial data.
- Manage an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Execute entity-level controls to ensure the financial statements are complete and accurate through senior-level analysis.
- Work within accounting, finance, and other departments to identify period variances to budget and forecast and work closely to improve budgeting and forecasting for both routine and ad hoc accounting matters.
- Oversee, review, and ensure the accurate and timely preparation of all regulatory reporting.
- Identify and develop automation solutions to improve efficiency.
- Develop and maintain accounting information according to GAAP concerning income, expenses, assets, liabilities and capital as a basis for management planning and decision-making, and for fulfilling financial reporting requirements.
- Manages third-party relationships of providers specific to Reporting.
Essential Skills:
- Required Education: Bachelor's degree in field relevant to role (or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree), advanced degree preferred.
- Required Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience, 4+ years as a People Leader.
- Experience working with automated business function systems feeding journal entries to the general ledger
- Experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and related footnotes
- Strong knowledge of state and local taxes, including property taxes, back-up withholding, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and experience researching, evaluating and assisting with implementing new accounting analyses and methodologies consistent with GA
- Proficiency in using technology to analyze data and improve accounting/business processes that create reconciling exceptions or financial loss
- Knowledge of financial and accounting policies, internal controls, procedures
- Understanding of data collection methodologies and business processes feeding to the general ledger
- Solid project management skills to review, communicate and present action plans.
- Proficient with automated financial planning, reporting, and accounting systems
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; some knowledge of Microsoft Visio and process flow diagrams
- Certification/License: CPA preferred
Location: Marlborough/Chelmsford, MA Target Compensation:$146,500 - $176,000 Schedule:Monday - Friday | 8am-5pm (Hybrid)
