Clinical Social Work Supervisor

Department: Case Coordination


Position Summary

The Clinical Social Work Supervisor provides leadership, clinical oversight, and supervision for social work services across the hospital, with a focus on vulnerable patient populations in the Emergency Department, Women and Infant Services, and inpatient units. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality psychosocial care, supporting staff development, and advancing the mission, vision, and values of Sibley Memorial Hospital. The Supervisor collaborates with physicians, administrators, and interdisciplinary team members to improve patient care, resolve barriers to discharge and treatment, and promote positive patient and family outcomes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical supervision and leadership for social work staff, including support for licensure development and professional growth.
  • Oversee assessment, intervention, care coordination, and discharge planning for complex and vulnerable patient populations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate psychosocial programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor quality of care, patient outcomes, and compliance with hospital standards and best practices.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and education, and support staff accountability and development.
  • Serve as a resource for patients and families by providing counseling, crisis support, and connection to community and financial resources.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, effective, and timely transitions of care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in hiring, staff selection, strategic planning, and hospital/community initiatives as assigned.


Qualifications

Required:



  • Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited program
  • Current LICSW licensure in the District of Columbia
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in social work or counseling with complex patient populations
  • Current CPR certification


Preferred:



  • Inpatient hospital experience
  • Supervisory or leadership experience
  • Experience working with diverse populations across the lifespan
  • Knowledge of hospital-based and community resources in the DC area
  • Experience working on an interdisciplinary healthcare team


Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical assessment and discharge planning skills
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring abilities
  • Ability to manage complex and urgent situations with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Collaborative, flexible, and adaptable in a fast-paced healthcare environment
  • Proficient in electronic medical records and computerized systems


Salary Range: Minimum 43.42/hour - Maximum 75.99/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
