POSITION SUMMARY

The Yarn Operator - Spinning operates and monitors spinning equipment to produce quality yarn safely and efficiently. This position monitors yarn flow, repairs breaks, handles roving and yarn materials, maintains equipment and work areas, and supports changing production needs through cross-training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Monitor spinning frames to ensure yarn moves smoothly through the process and identify yarn breaks or other operating issues.
  • Repair loose yarn ends and yarn breaks as needed to maintain production flow.
  • Unload, move, and transport spools of roving, bobbins of yarn, and loose yarn to designated areas as needed.
  • Operate spinning equipment safely and in accordance with established work instructions and procedures.
  • Monitor product and equipment during operation and report quality concerns, processing issues, or equipment problems to the appropriate supervisor or lead.
  • Follow production instructions and established quality requirements to support consistent yarn production.
  • Maintain spinning equipment and surrounding work areas in a clean and orderly condition throughout the shift.
  • Seek opportunities to improve safety, quality, and efficiency within the manufacturing process.
  • Cross-train in other areas of Yarn Manufacturing to support changing production and staffing needs.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain established housekeeping and 5S standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Two or more years of production experience preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the job is acceptable.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  • Ability to safely operate production equipment and follow established work instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to cross-train in other areas of Yarn Manufacturing to meet changing business needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to stand, walk, twist, and crouch as needed throughout the shift, excluding breaks and meals.
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Employees are not expected to lift loads that would be unsafe or pose an excessive risk.
  • Ability to push and pull wheeled carts containing product weighing up to 200 pounds over short distances.
  • Ability to safely operate a hand truck to move bales of wool weighing up to 450 pounds.
  • Frequent exposure to a humid manufacturing environment with wool fibers, dust, noise, and moving machinery.
  • Hearing protection is required in all areas of Yarn Manufacturing.
  • Non-slip footwear is required.


3rd shift 11:00PM-7:30AM
Wages and annual increases are provided in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Shift differential on 2nd and 3rd shifts. Eligible employees receive ten (10) paid holidays, medical, dental, prescription drug coverage, short-term disability benefits, vision care reimbursement, shoe reimbursement, and a 401(k) retirement plan with Company matching contributions up to $750 annually, plus an annual employer fixed contribution of $1,300. Employees also begin accruing sick leave and vacation time starting on their first day of employment.
