What to Expect

Tesla is seeking an Industrial Engineer to own and optimize Production Control (PC) operations at Megafactory California. In this role, you will design and improve material delivery systems across Warehouse and Megafactory (line-side delivery) so the right part arrives at the right place, in the right quantity, at the right time. You will lead work on delivery routes, cycle times, capacity, PFEP, and part presentation, using data, time studies, simulation, and practical floor engagement. You will partner with Production, Planning, Materials, Quality, NPI, and Manufacturing Engineering to remove bottlenecks, improve KPI outcomes, and ensure Production Control never becomes the constraint to scaling sustainable energy production.

What You'll Do
  • Own IE support for Production Control end-to-end: Glacier warehouse flow through Megafactory line-side delivery
  • Optimize delivery routes (cycle time, distance, frequency, quantity, workload balance) to improve on-time delivery and reduce line starvation
  • Develop and maintain PFEP standards linking packaging, presentation, replenishment, and route design
  • Drive part presentation improvements (reduce cardboard; design associate-friendly line-side presentation) on critical stations first, then scale
  • Establish and sustain cycle time standards for PC processes and routes; audit and refresh data so decisions stay accurate
  • Build capacity and labor models for PC (routes, shifts, headcount, productivity) aligned to factory rate and mix
  • Partner on OEE Availability & Performance inputs tied to material delivery losses; use time studies, Yamazumi, and A3/TOC/DMAIC to close true hurts
  • Build tools and dashboards (Python, SQL, Tableau/Power BI, or equivalent) for route performance, delivery OTIF, cycle time, and capacity visibility
  • Lead and support kaizen on routes, presentation, supermarket/kitting, and delivery flow; document before/after impact
  • Act as the primary IE POC for PC-drive cross-functional closure with Packaging, Process, Quality Ops, and Production; communicate status, risks, asks, and results to leadership

What You'll Bring
  • Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Operations, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience in industrial engineering within manufacturing, warehousing, material flow, or production control
  • Strong skills in time study / work measurement, route or line balancing, capacity modeling, and labor standards
  • Experience with PFEP, supermarket/kitting, or line-side material presentation
  • Proficiency in data analysis, (advanced Excel; Python and/or SQL preferred) and visualization (Tableau, Power BI, or custom dashboards)
  • Demonstrated ownership in a fast-paced environment: drive cross-functional work to completion, escalate early, and protect operations from impact
  • Strong communication and floor presence-comfortable in Gemba, Tier meetings, and leadership updates
  • Experience with discrete-event simulation and , linear modeling (FlexSim, AnyLogic, Arena, or similar) preferred
  • Familiarity with WMS/MFS, SCADA/Ignition, or MES; Lean toolkit (Kaizen, VSM, Kanban, SMED) and structured problem-solving preferred
  • Exposure to AGV/AMR routes, automated material handling, or high-volume assembly material delivery preferred
