POSITION OVERVIEW: The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining mechanical systems and components that support Laerdal's Maternal & Nursing products and solutions. This role ensures high-quality, reliable system functionality throughout the product lifecycle while collaborating closely with crossfunctional engineering, production, and quality teams.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Managing mechanical design architecture, solutions and documentation throughout the product lifecycle
- Ensuring product regulatory compliance and adherence to internal standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintaining accurate documentation of mechanical systems within PLM systems
- Technical decisionmaking for component selection, system design strategies, and design verification validation methods
- Providing technical guidance during product changes, upgrades, and quality improvements
- Communicating and collaborating with cross-functional teams, architecture leadership, and product teams
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical components, assemblies, and systems
- Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
- Test, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues through root cause analysis and problem solving
- Build, prototype, and validate product concepts and designs
- Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Development teams throughout the product lifecycle
- Support product changes, updates, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure designs meet quality, regulatory, manufacturability, and reliability requirements
- Evaluate components and provide technical support for suppliers and sourcing activities
- Research emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation
- Support manufacturing operations by resolving design-related issues and optimizing product performance
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles & mechatronic systems design
- Experience with multidisciplinary hardware product development
- Experience with system level design and cabling
- Knowledge of plastics injection molding and sheet metal fabrication.Curious, creative and passionate about innovation and problem solving
- Proficiency in CAD software preferably Siemens NX
- Good at rapid prototyping and iterative product design
- Experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers)
- Experience with prototyping equipment and 3D printing
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science degree, Mechanical Engineering
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and clinical skills is a plus
- 3-9 years' experience
