Bench Machinist - 3rd Shift

BENCH MACHINIST - 3^RD SHIFT

Position Summary

Operating specialized machinery to perform operation of metal working components to specific processes and prints, requiring close tolerances.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain close tolerances. Perform related bench functions, such as, deburring, cutting splines, honing, marking part numbers, countersinking, drilling, etc. Change and replace dull or broken tools as required
• Observe machine operation for accuracy and replace dull cutters. Maintain correlated dimensions such as lead, pitch, diameter, profile, etc. Identify sets by stamping
• Perform dynamic balancing of single and multiple rotors, propellers, impellers, screws, rotating elements, timing gears and subcontract elements as required up to capacity of machine
• Setups require selection and the use of various bushings and arbors, including expansion arbors on which the parts to be balanced are securely mounted
• Tolerances are close but not difficult to attain.
• Maintain balancing machines and tooling
• Lubricate and perform minor maintenance functions
• Participate in bench assembly operations as workload requires. Perform various grinding, deburring, tapping, tap burning reaming, etc., to obtain proper fit, alignment and/or operation of items. Operate various hand tools, drill presses, tap burner, etc.
• Remove burrs on all machined parts
• Detect and report defective materials and faulty operations to proper supervisor. Follow all safety rules, procedures and practices. Maintain work area in clean and orderly manner
• Record labor times and other related data on standard forms
• Record all required data on Process Control Sheets including finished dimensions checked, measuring instruments used, serial numbers, etc.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Must be able to read Blue prints/Geometric tolerances
• Must be familiar with machinist tools and hand tools (micrometers, verniers, indicators, scales, dial bore gage)
• Must demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills
• Must be a team player, flexible, and self-directed /self-motivated and possess a positive attitude
• Must be skilled at problem solving, thinking outside the box, and acceptable of change and innovation. Must be open to coaching and training with a willingness to learn all machines/cells
• Some physical effort (avg. 25 lbs)

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Must have HS diploma or GED equivalent; concentration in machining would be a plus
• Minimum of three years' experience required
