The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer supports the design and coordination of control systems for cleanroom, fab, and advanced manufacturing facilities. This role develops instrumentation and controls packages that may include I/O lists, control narratives, loop diagrams, panel layouts, sequence of operations, and device schedules while working closely with project managers, discipline leads, clients, vendors, and contractors. The engineer reviews process and utility requirements, helps define PLC and DCS architecture, and coordinates field instrumentation and control panel design to support safe, reliable, and maintainable operations. Throughout design and construction, this person participates in QA/QC reviews, resolves comments and RFIs, supports change control, and contributes to startup and turnover activities.

Responsibilities

Prepare instrumentation and controls design deliverables for semiconductor and advanced technology facilities, including control system layouts, device schedules, I/O lists, loop diagrams, panel details, and sequence of operations documents.

Support development of PLC and DCS hardware architectures, control panel arrangements, and field instrumentation selection based on project requirements, process needs, and maintainability.
Interpret and coordinate P&IDs, one line diagrams, process flow diagrams, and related engineering documents to define control system scope and interfaces.
Work with project managers, discipline leads, process engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and client representatives to align control design with facility and process objectives.
Use AutoCAD and Revit to produce, update, and coordinate design drawings and models, ensuring consistency with overall project documentation and building systems interfaces.
Assist in design calculations, equipment and instrumentation sizing support, control system cable and raceway coordination, and other technical analyses needed to complete a compliant design package.
Participate in internal QA/QC reviews, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, and client reviews to identify conflicts, refine scope, and support design quality and constructability.
Coordinate with vendors and equipment suppliers to review technical submittals, gather required information, and confirm integration requirements for packaged systems and specialty equipment.
Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and support construction phase services by clarifying design intent, evaluating field conditions, and assisting with issue resolution.
Conduct site walks and field verification activities to confirm existing conditions, support installation coordination, and identify opportunities for risk reduction and design improvement.
Support change management by tracking design revisions, documenting scope impacts, and helping manage budget, schedule, and technical risk through project turnover.
Assist with startup, commissioning, and turnover activities by supporting point-to-point verification, functional testing, and resolution of punch list items.
Contribute to safe design practices by applying applicable codes, standards, and project-specific safety requirements in all phases of work.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering design technology, drafting, or a related technical field.
Experience with instrumentation and controls design in industrial, semiconductor, advanced technology, or comparable process facility environments.
Ability to produce an I&C design package with oversight, including drawings, schedules, narratives, and coordination documents.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for producing and coordinating technical design deliverables.
Working knowledge of PLC and DCS hardware architectures, control panel construction, and field instrumentation types.
Ability to read and interpret P and IDs, one line diagrams, and process flow diagrams.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, vendors, and contractors.
Demonstrated attention to detail, organization, and follow-through in a design environment with multiple interfaces and deadlines.
Ability to support QA/QC processes, resolve comments professionally, and incorporate feedback into accurate final deliverables.
Eagerness to learn, take direction from senior staff, and contribute to mentoring or coordination efforts as project complexity grows.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $85,000/year depending on location, education, depth of relevant experience, and any specialized licensure/certifications. Opportunity for ample rewards, leadership incentive components, and generous bonus opportunities.
